I'm not trying to start a religious debate.

I'm agnostic and I enjoy Touched by an Angel, even though I don't believe in religious, biblical or God stuff.

Years ago, I tried to get into it and I was put off by the angelic stuff and turned it off after a few minutes, but this year, I gave it another chance and watched quite a few episodes on Paramount+ and I actually really like it. I like how it's a lot like a drama/investigative series and I was surprised by how much the angelic stuff actually tied in well with that. I really like Tess and Monica in it, especially because those characters are well-acted, Della Reese and Roma Downey really hit the mark portraying them.

I didn't used to think I could get into the show because part of its premise was stuff I didn't believe in and I thought years ago watching it would be me not being true to myself, but giving it another chance made me see it in another aspect, it's no different than watching anything else and not believing in what you're watching, but enjoy it for the entertainment value.

Nowadays I like it because I like watching the Angels trying to make a difference in people's lives and the angelic stuff actually adds to that, giving the show a sense of positivity and warmth. After watching it enough times, my own religious beliefs (or lack of) don't get in the way of me enjoying it anymore and nowadays I see it the same way I see any other work of fiction.

Looks like you answered your own question there.

Yes.

What the fuck?

I'm not at all religious. I don't enjoy TbaA. Or 7th Heaven, for that matter. On the other hand, I totally enjoy other shows with religious premises and/or themes. Highway to Heaven, I can take it or leave it. Joan of Arcadia is excellent. Amen was a fun sitcom. For that matter, The Righteous Gemstones is terrific.

You don't have to identify with something in order to enjoy it.

No, that show is shit. Twice in a Lifetime, though... you can like that. Oh, and Drop Dead Diva.

It seems like the kind of show that you could enjoy if you view it as fantasy.

I used to watch it when it was broadcast, and I enjoyed it enough at that time. I was a lot more religious back then, though. I haven’t gone back and rewatched it recently, dunno how I would feel about it now. But hey, good on ya for finding a show you like. You might enjoy Quantum Leap and Early Edition as well.

Sure. Sometimes you want a show that's positive and upbeat. You can think of it as fantasy.

Why not? It's like watching Hallmark or Lifetime & thinking that's how all couples work out-they just happen to meet up, have an argument, then fall in love by the end. Happily ever after....People eat it up, because it does not naturally happen that way....most times.

Agnostic. Not atheist.

In hindsight, the writing sucked and the messaging was heavy handed. Things got wrapped up in 44 minutes, including PTSD and drug addiction. Great gueststars.
