Personally, I'd say the best was Duel (starring Dennis Weaver).

Also up there would be Escape from Sobibor (Rutger Hauer).

Another favorite, although most people wouldn't include it because it compares unfavorably it to the original theatrical release, is 12 Angry Men (Jack Lemmon, George C. Scott).

I suppose I'd say they don't really feel relevant any more because the best ones will come from streaming services, so won't really be considered 'tv movies' although they still would be.

edit- Brian's Song, as mentioned by ray_0856, is another good one. I was trying to remember it, and could only come up with Bang the Drum Slowly, which was a theatrical release)

I think the kid that directed it might have a future in that business!

I think the time is ripe for one of the old timey networks to bring back the movie-of-the-week. Paging Michele Lee!

By Dawn's Early Light.

An accidental nuclear exchange leads the world to the brink.

Starring Darth Vader himself, James Earl Jones.. Plus Martin Landau, Rebecca de Mornay, Powers Booth. A brilliantly tense movie.

Citizen X.

A very good tv film about a serial killer in the Soviet Union, based on a real story.
