So, I'm just finishing up Lost and I am in the search for a new mystery show. I hear mixed yet great things about 1899. I've tried watching Dark once but it didn't click for me on the first episode. So I am thinking if I should try out 1899 before giving Dark another shot?

What do you think? Is it possible and are the two series somehow related?

I’ve started watching 1899 and very much enjoying it. I have yet to watch Dark so I don’t think it matters.

They said there's no connection between the two. Don't wanna repeat ourselves kinda thing. So you can enjoy it, it's very enjoyable and addictive and well made. I couldn't stop binge watching honestly. It's easier to watch (on the surface at least) and you can go on r/1899 for more help.
Creators said 1899 is both for fans of Dark and casual viewers (in RT interview) maybe that's the reason. I personally know some people who haven't enjoyed first couple episodes of Dark and enjoyed 1899 very much.
But in the end you should give it a watch yourself to make sure (and please watch it in first 28 days, it's what Netflix really care about, and imo start with 1899).

I didn't watch dark and I did. It was great although I can say it's one of those shows that serves the plot more than the character and because it more about the mystery than the ensemble I doubt I'll re-visit it atleast until next season.

But the mystery is good enough and it's well paced. I watched it all in two sittings.

They’re not the same, no connection in-world, you’re fine to watch it. However, I HIGHLY recommend watching Dark too. It’s so enjoyable, and a lot more satisfying than 1899.

What you should do, is watch DARK. My god what a great series. Print out the family tree first so you can follow it...

That's an awful advice, don't do that. Use the official Netflix Dark website, it's the spoiler free way to do it.

There is no connection between Dark and 1899. They're completely different stories.

It is like asking "should I watch Parks and Recreation if I haven't seen The Office?". Completely different stories, similar genre, same creators.

Dark isn’t really a click after one episode kind of show. It’s a slow burn, but develops into something that is much more than you would expect from the pilot. While 1899 shares some similarities in style, it’s a completely different show. It it’s also an incomplete show, so if it were me I’d always go for the show that I know has a beginning and an end.
