Dexter, Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Nurse Jackie, Marcella.
I think you'd like Babylon Berlin
The Wire (HBO) is similar in subject matter to BB or BCS, but more realisticly portrayed and much more thought provoking.
Midnight Mass (Netflix) is everything you are describing in your last paragraph in a concise, one-season story.
Dark (Netflix) is another great suspense/mystery/supernatural combination show if you are ok with something non-english (subtitles, etc..).
The Leftovers (HBO) - Metaphysical/Religious/Sci-fi Drama - Really good, but often very emotional and intense. Second best ending after Sopranos.
Deadwood (HBO) - Western Shakespeare // Machiavellian
Mare of Easttown (HBO) - Really fucking good small-town Crime Drama
The Outsiders (HBO) - Weird Horror Crime Mystery - Great acting - Stephen King story
The Night Of (HBO) - Crime/Law Drama - fantastic acting, slow paced.
The Wire (HBO) - Fantastic diverse crime drama, very bingable.
The Sopranos (HBO) - Still the best show on television, watch it! GABAGOOL! This show ended in the most controversial and perfect way.
Ohhhh The Wire! Thats a show that Ive bought all the boxed sets for and have never watched. Ive always heard its the best show of all time
Some seasons are definitely better than others, but on average a very good show. I still like the first season the most.
That's a really fun show to watch for the first time. Although it'll be dated as fuck in a lot of ways too. Which kinda makes it even better.
