Euphoria is already an adaption of an Israeli series. So this is an adaption of an adaption.

I've heard that the israeli version is pretty different though.

One of my weird hobbies is comparing adaptions from all over the world, I love how The Bridge, for example has been adapted six times already.

The catalan show Polseres Vermelles (polseres rojas in spanish) has also been super successfully adapted in italy, france and germany, the american red band society was a flop though.

Which version of the bridge did you like best? I’m a huge fan of the Swedish / Danish version so haven’t checked out others

Probably the austrian/german one but I might be biased. Its also pretty different from the original

Just like "Ein Herz und eine Seele", the German adaption of "All in the family", which was already adapted from "Til death us do part"!

Given the disastrous track record of typical German TV and movie productions, there's really no need for some German adaption of Euphoria. It's only going to be much worse than the original or the US adaption. Literally the only thing German TV and movie industry is capable to do is to recycle "successful" concepts and then recycle these concepts again and again without any regard for quality or, you might have guessed it, originality.

I heard Barbarians on Netflix is pretty good. Its about the conflict between Roman Empire and Germanics. Pretty amazing history so the material they have makes me optimistic

Did you watch Tatortreiniger? I also liked Morgen hör ich auf and Bruder - Schwarze Macht. Der Pass is also not bad, Club der roten Bänder was a superior adaption than Red Band Society. Dark is a german show too. In addition Netflix made Unorthodox which won the Emmy for Best Mini-Series.

At least Netflix German series, it's pretty good. Are you German?

I have a german friend and he hates German TV, which surprised me as my experience from German-Netflix content was good lol

This sounds pretty dope. Druck was the best Skam adaptation out of the bunch. And Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo was a German show a bit similar in tone and style to Euphoria and that was great also.

Why? It’s barely popular in the USA for the cost.

what u mean? Euphoria is pretty popular in the u.s.

1

Bronco4bay t1_iy071zb wrote

It’s really not.

16.3m viewers on a cost of about 200m a season. And that’s prior to all the marketing they waste money on.

It is a huge drain.

1

pm_me_reason_to_livx OP t1_iy0rovx wrote

i mean it's not Game of Thrones/House of Dragon level sure, but it's definitely popular. HBO's most popular ongoing show besides House of the Dragon right? With quite the cultural impact too. And it's not like it's more expensive than stuff like House of the Dragon or Westworld is it?

Also, I don't think HBO is ever really overconcerned with budget the same way, let's say... Netflix are. The show is a success so they'll keep it going for the foreseeable future.

1

Bronco4bay t1_iy0skmw wrote

It’s actually pretty close to the cost of HoTD. They spent more on marketing on that show though.

HBO is incredibly concerned about budget. At that price, Euphoria is a massive failure.

If they're "incredibly concerned" about budget... then why renew it?

> At that price, Euphoria is a massive failure.

C'mon, there's no way you can say that with a serious face. This show is one of the most discussed in recent years. Even Bratz just did an animation of the popular "Bitch you better be jokin'" scene. Regardless of the budget most shows don't get to the level of relevance Euphoria has gotten.

Bronco4bay t1_iy0wc4n wrote

Because they’re bad at business? You can be bad at business but still make Hollywood content. That’s why Zaslav is trying to completely overhaul the company, they have huge debts and aren’t chipping away at them like say Netflix is.

You are disconnecting the actual numbers from your argument. It is not popular by that metric. It is very popular for a very vocal but small niche, however. There’s definitely a lot of memes. Not a lot of watchers, though.

xxTheGoDxx t1_ixqfufw wrote

That sounds horrible to be honest. Even within Germany our movie and TV show productions are considered pretty bad, with a few noteable exceptions.

If you'd watched it you'd know that it does the exact opposite, there is no scene where drugs are portrayed as cool, just as a crutch, constantly causing conflict in the process.

There's an hour long episode which is basically just a conversation about how bad drug addiction is for the main character.

Confused on your use of "gaslighting" too
