Anyone seen this? Does anyone else feel like this is essentially Breaking Bad 2.0? The story is slightly different but it’s basically the same premise: Cranston’s character gets involved in crime and starts the lying and the scheming and the double life to protect himself and his family. The unintended casualties. The gradual devolution of morality. It all just screams Walter White from early seasons of BB to me. I mean, even the line from episode 7.. “you need me; you can’t do this without me” seems like it was taken directly from BB. I feel like this whole show was written specifically for Cranston as Walter White as Heisenberg. I mean i don’t necessarily hate it because I loved Cranston as WW but it just seems….odd. Like the writers wanted to piggy back off the success of Walter White’s character and create something similar. Anyway, please no spoilers because I’m not caught up yet and I’ll probably keep watching. Just wanted to see if anyone thought the same.

I found it to be unwatchable garbage. So is it Breaking Bad2.0 hell no.

I pulled the plug around the four episode. It was 4 hours of watching characters make the dumbest decisions possible.

It was garbage.

The crime scene after the boys accident was a joke.

I am 3 days late to this conversation, but I agree completely: it is such lazy writing making the characters make such stupid choices just to advance the story in the easiest way possible.

I am just finishing up ep. 4, and I don't know if I should keep going. Will it be worth it when he finally goes off? Or just more stupid decisions?

This is one of those shows that I loved and was very surprised to find folks on Reddit hated it.

I finished it even though it was pretty dumb, both father and son's actions are dumb, but that's also cause it was relatively short and I usually don't like dropping things partway. Was surprised there's a Season 2, but I already forgot Season 1 lol so doubtful I will tune in for Season 2. If I do, I'll probably watch a recap video on YouTube.

Adam is an idiot. His dad is just trying to clean up his mess and protect him.

Watched it when it came out and don't remember much about but I didn't really get a Breaking Bad vibe from it at all. Unless I'm forgetting something it seemed like he was really doing all of that to protect his son rather than for him (which is ultimately the point of Breaking Bad, it was for him the entire time)

Yea but the early seasons of BB was Walter wanting to take care of his family. He was a completely different person by the end. Corrupted. Which I could see happening with Michael. Once you go to the dark side it’s hard to come back.

I haven’t seen it, but remember thinking the exact same thing during promo for S1. This definitely felt like something Cranston had explored well before in Breaking Bad. The show is based on an International TV series (similar to Homeland).

I see that, but it is a different character.

And at least he has more than a reason that he needs to protect his son, vs Walter White who may well have had the same results with in network cancer treatment.

Municipal corruption is the theme. Much different premise than Breaking Bad. When Season 1 premiered, Cranston said it would only be one season. I was hoping that to be the case. It was a great season of intrigue. I suppose I will give the second season a chance...

I mean i like It and i understand the difference in theme/storyline but I can’t help but notice the overwhelming similarities between Michael and Walter. Many parallels.

Not remotely close to Breaking Bad 2.0. They obviously cast Cranston to try to make this comparison but it doesn’t hold up imo

The oddest and perhaps the dumbest part is where as a judge he started helping the accused. That is just some galaxy brain shit.
