Chainsaw Man is the hottest anime on the block right now, but I wasn't too wowed by it. Basically there are aspects of this one that I liked, and aspects I didn't like. What I liked? Well it's a blood-filled action anime about a man who can turn into a half-man half-chainsaw... thingy... and that's fucking awesome. There's also humor that's pretty fucking great, and visually, even though not too impressive, looks good and has an old-school anime flare to it. What I didn't like? The lack of solid worldbuilding made even worse by uneven pacing and one dimensional characters. In the first few episodes too, the writing tends to add new details out of nowhere, almost like whoever wrote it originally was making it up as they went along. Plus, this is another anime about a boy who gains some kind of new ability and finds himself in a secret group of hunters hunting monster-like creatures... I've grown tired of it.
I have no idea if Chainsaw Man is suppose to be some kind of satire on modern anime, because at times it definitely feels like it, but those ended up being mere moments as for the most part this plays out like your typical anime. I also thought there'd be more chainsaw man action sequences, but mediocre writing is what hindered this one from being great in my opinion. Still, kudos to it for being enjoyable enough for me to watch the entire thing.
