I read the first book and want to start the show, but it seems so amazing. Im glad it gets such good reviews- I was worried it wasnt faithful to the series

The authors remained heavily involved in the show. There were some changes that aren't exactly faithful to the books, but they're mostly for the better. I think the authors have actually said that the bigger changes were made because they went back and thought about what they would do differently if they were writing the books again.
