Him and Orbach were the best L&O detective duo.

I guess this means Ed Green won’t be showing up on the new L&O any time soon.

Nah, I liked him though

Briscoe and Curtis was the best.

Preach.

I wished that we had gotten more than 1ish season of Ceretta and then maybe he and Logan could have been it based solely on the strength of Paul Sorvino. But Briscoe and Curtis is the dream team and coincided with peak L&O.

Uh I thought that the consultant procedural was a dead genre these days. Glad it’s back, these type of shows are my comfort food.

Frankly unless the main character is very compelling, I'm kinda over the whole 'asshole savant main character who solves x' genre. House was the only one i truly liked and even that is nigh unwatchable last few seasons with the increasingly terrible costars

obscureposter t1_j1x6fs5 wrote

To be fair I think the asshole shtick was only a couple of shows like House, Sherlock and Elementary. I don’t know but I feel like being at least a little bit of an asshole is a requirement for that type of character because what kind of “know it all” isn’t a little assholish or irritating. Shawn from Psych, Jane from Mentalist, Monk or the dude from lie to me are all abrasive.

Though I would agree with that it would be nice if writers didn’t use that trait as a crutch for character development but as long as they give me some good mysteries and the main character is charismatic, I’ll watch this type of show till my dying breath.

MexusRex t1_j1xsus4 wrote

How dare you. Shawn Spencer is not abrasive, nor is his associate Sh’dynasty.

obscureposter t1_j1xta9o wrote

Lol. I love Shawn but he’s definitely a bit of an asshole. Ghee Buttersnaps however is a god amongst mere mortals.

I love them too, do you have any recommendations? Recently finished Scorpion and I’m approaching the end of Lucifer

obscureposter t1_j1yb0vp wrote

Ohh do I.

Mentalist - amazing

Castle - great till the later seasons.

Lie to Me - got cancelled so only two seasons

Psych - watch this first if you haven’t

Bones - this one varies is quality greatly but has its moments

Person of Interest - turns away from being a procedural fairly early but it’s really good show nonetheless

Elementary - my personal favourite interpretation of Sherlock Holmes

Heavy caveat with all these shows is that they are of course formulaic but that’s the point. I think all these above shows are worth a watch to see if you like them, but definitely watch more than a couple episodes before deciding. Shows in this genre usually need a couple of episodes to hit their stride.

Also while not strictly a procedural, but in a similar case of the week type show, check out Fringe. It is quite possibly the best show ever made if you are fan of sci fi.

Yeah I loved him in the Flash. He’s a great actor. Kind of makes you wonder why we haven’t seen more of him.

It had been a while and I haven't seen the whol series but wasn't The Mentalist just about him being just a police consultant? This sounds a bit more like Lie To Me where the consultant works for whoever hires them.

I was thinking it sounded like 'Bull' or 'Lie To Me'.

I'm glad he found work. He's had not much to do on The Flash in years - i think he hurt his back so for one season when he did appear, he was a bit slurring, then it was back to normal after that.
