Season 1 was so good that I think it was just impossible to follow. Feel the same way about Westworld.

Season 1 of TD was one of the best seasons of a tv show of all time, in my opinion.

Harrison was stellar. That one shot thru the projects. Mcconaughey chasing just chain smoking / drinking thru interviews. One of the best seasons of television.

Yep, I’ve been saying that for years. It was an incredible season

I mean I think if they followed it up directly with season 3 it would’ve been fine.

I just think season 2 was absolutely awful.

Westworld season 1 was awful. that entire show is Abrams levels of awful.

Westworld s1 was incredibly boring.

One was so good, two was meh, I didn’t even know there was a third.

3 was actually pretty good. A bit of an underwhelming ending (same with s1), but it was way better than s2

I actually like S.2 but I know I'm in the minority there. The extreme minority.

I liked season two also. I thought it was good. It just shouldn't have been a True Detective season in my opinion.

Season 1 set the tone for a serial killer vibe, and season 2 went in a completely different direction. It was more of a Mafia/Gangster drama.

If season 2 was a standalone HBO Max series I think people would have liked it a lot more.

Yeah that's fair. I think I like it just because I find that kind of Los Angeles underbelly interesting. Same with Jackie Brown, Repo Man, Chinatown. LA is just so spread out and weird as someone who's lived in more urban, packed in cities. Just find it fascinating.

Season 2 was a weird mulholland drive David Lynch typa vibe and tbh it didn’t mesh well with people.

KKalonick t1_j1if9ru wrote

In my opinion, season 2 is a good show, but it's hurt by people binging season 1 and rolling right into it.

Season 1 was truly special and has a wildly different tone, setting, and set of characters. Going into 2 off the high of 1, especially expecting more of the same, is a recipe for disappointment.

Rewatched this year and it’s better than it got credit for back during airing. Tough to follow S1, which I think skewed the opinions on it.

3rd wasn’t bad, but 2 turned so many people off that it didn’t get a lot of attention.

At least with True Detective being an anthology series it hopefully has a lesser chance of pointlessness than Westworld had by its season 4. Mainly though I have faith that Jodie Foster takes on strong projects and delivers great performances. I'd pay to see her play a Rust Cohle-type character.

At the end of season three they mention the characters and the case from season 1. They just couldn’t fucking resist

Twigling t1_j1dg12d wrote

Just to point out to those unaware - Nic Pizzolatto (the main writer of seasons 1, 2 and 3) isn't involved with season 4 (he's only credited as an exec producer). This may or may not be a good thing.

I would say neutral. But he had someone work closely with him on seasons 1 and 3 and did most of season 2 on his own. So

Cranberry_Jealous t1_j1rkwl6 wrote

its a good thing. this series needed fresh eyes. He made s2 as a reaction to the reception of s1. and then made s3 in reaction to s2. The creative team for s4 is ridiculously great.

After the lackluster Season 2 and the meh Season 3... This show has been labeled as a one season wonder for me.

Season 1? Because westworld progressively got worse each season and is comically bad after season 2

Yes, i should have specified Westworld season 1. Such a shame it went the way it did

I don’t know why they didn’t just do an anthology based on the family from the first one. Would have been interesting
