David Warner always bought his A game to whatever role he played, no matter how serious or silly. My persona favourite was the mad captain in Hornblower

I just rewatched the Doctor Who episode where he was a Soviet scientist. He was delightful
TemporalAlchemy t1_j26in7b wrote
He also played an amazing parallel universe Doctor in the audio dramas. Legit a top-tier Doc in his own right.

Loved him in every role I saw him in...he owned every single scene he was in! The first time I saw him was in Tron as Sark, or possibly as the Ultimate Evil in Time Bandits (he was the perfect choice for that role!), and probably the most memorable performance to me was his role as Gul Madred from Star Trek: TNG. (you can see my taste runs to genre films and TV!)
Looking at his IMDB listing, it's amazing the volume of work he did...including quite a few voice acting roles! He will be missed.

For me it's Ra's Al Ghul from DCAU's Batman.

I love that performance so much. Him and Stewart acting opposite one another was a masterclass.
TheNerdChaplain t1_j26tu7e wrote
I best remember him as Gul Madred as well, and Jon Irenicus in Baldur's Gate 2, but another really special role he played to me was Aldous Gajic in the Season 1 episode "Grail" of Babylon 5.
jnemesh t1_j29c0q7 wrote
I had forgotten about that one! Yes, he was excellent in that role as well...and I loved his speech about how the Quest to find the Grail was more important than actually finding it. Good stuff!
calguy1955 t1_j275grc wrote
The dialog between him and Patric Stewart is my favorite in the entire series. “I was completely unprepared for the power she would have over me from the moment she was born” sums up fatherhood exactly.

I saw Time After Time in the theater back in '79. Warner played an exquisite Jack the Ripper opposing Malcom McDowell's HG Wells. He was able to create fear just through the strength of his acting.

He truly had presence - I can’t think of a single role where he didn’t come to the forefront and leave an impression.

That movie scared me so much. He was terrific (in a scary way).

To me, always, Jon Irenicus. The villain that made Baldurs Gate 2 so enjoyable. And later of course Gul Madred and then some other roles. But man, without his voice Irenicus would not have been half as menacing.

I was first introduced to David Warner in 1981 when I saw Time Bandits. Holy shit my friends and I quoted his character all time.

Warner starred in so many of my favorite movies
- Tron
- Time after Time
- Time Bandits
- A Christmas Carol
- and so on

As a kid I first saw him in Time Bandits, then in A Christmas Carol, which both had big imprints on me. Later on I've rewatched The Omen many times which he is great in. In the 90's he always showed up in horror movies (Waxwork, Body Bags, Tales from the Crypt). And of course Star Trek and Titanic. I really need to go back and watch all of his stuff in chronological order. Great actor who lifted up anything he was in.
Dragons_Malk t1_j284bol wrote
When I first watched Quest of the Delta Knights, I IMDb'd him due to how familiar he sounded; he reminded me of David Thewlis. Turns out he voiced Ra's al Ghul and played Jennings in The Omen. Funny enough, Thewlis played Jennings in the 2006 remake.

Such a shame to lose him. It didn't seem to matter how serious or silly the show was, he brought such gravitas and charm to every role.

First thing I saw him in was Time Bandits , he played a great hammy villain, chucking fireballs about and blowing up his minions on a whim.
Didn't recognise him as Chancellor Gorkon from Star Trek 6 at the time, but it was a great performance. Same thing when he played Gul Maldred in the "4 lights" episode in TNG.
Helluva talented guy
