Lol being set in a small town is possibly the least relevant part of the show.

It focuses on the characters In the first season. If you like it, keep watching.

I mean, The Leftovers is mostly about what happens inside those people's hearts and minds rather than what happens inside those small towns, so the small town vibe is not what makes it work. But to answer your question, they do move around a little, but I can only think of a few episodes set in a bigger city, if I recall correctly.

Some of it is set in cities, the first season is primarily set in a town called Mappleton but there are other characters in other locations and then season 2 is set in a different place and then half of season 3 is set in Australia. So you do see a lot of the world in the show

This is like asking "is Babylon 5 worth watching if you don't love on a space station"

I would think a person would want to watch a show, or read a book, that is set in an unfamiliar setting. Because they might learn a bit about the world outside of what they know.

Honestly, if your criteria for enjoying a show is that simplistic you probably won’t enjoy it.

If you think it’s an interesting concept because you want to find out what really happened to those who disappeared, don’t bother. The show and creators were very up front that the show is not interested in that question. It is interested in the question of how those left behind (the Leftovers) move on and grapple with it.

In my opinion, it is a masterpiece worth watching. But if you’re worried about not liking something because it’s set in a small town, I don’t know what to say. Twin Peaks was set in a small town too.
