I'm a big Supernatural fan and recently got my partner into the series. We're not quite finished but have a season or so left (I rewatched previous seasons again with her).

We started hearing of potential spinoffs and finally they landed on the Winchesters. And I'll be honest I haven't heard much buzz about the show , Infact barely any at all. I know it's only like 8 episodes in but what are your thoughts? Does it have potential, Is it any good? Do you think it'll last past a few seasons?. How does the show feel? How is the pace. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

I just don't want to commit to a show that might be cancelled, or ruin any feelings I have on the original Supernatural show.

I had friends who are watching it and nothing they've said about it has made me want to watch The Winchesters. Apparently, a lot of what they're doing in The Winchesters goes against what was set up in Supernatural and they've said it feels a lot like a bad fanfic.

With all of the CW shows that are being canceled and the number of Supernatural fans who I know have sworn off watching this show on principle, I would be surprised if it gets a Season 2. And since the producers have talked about the big explanation for why The Winchesters appears to be contradicting canon coming in the season finale, I'm suspecting it'll end on a cliffhanger one way or the other.

So I've been in no hurry to watch it even though I do plan on watching it one day even if it gets canceled without a real conclusion (with it only being 13 episodes long and me being a franchise completionist, I feel like I at least have to give it a shot at some point). Based on what I have heard about the show though, I'm not particularly excited to watch even though I do think some of the ideas that have been included sound interesting.

Damn, I totally forgot this even was a thing (and Im a huge Supernatural fan!).

I dont want to watch it to be honest, the whole concept of it sounds like it would break the canon pretty badly (and the show already did enough retcons in regards to John and Mary as it was).

Im up for more of that universe but they should have just done something different. Maybe a series about young Bobby and John when they first started hunting could have been good.

It's... ok.

I think the biggest problem is that they decided to go with a featureless 'Big Bad'. It's hard to sustain a compelling villain when you never develop that villain as a character. So what we end up with a series of low stakes battles we don't really care about.

The episodic nature of the show also doesn't help. Supernatural predated the era of prestige television, so people were happy with disconnected monster-of-the-week storytelling. But going back to it in the modern day feels... bloated.

I like it a lot, I feel like it could also be its own standalone show. The cast has good chemistry with each other & it's a quick watch. I definitely could see this show lasting a few seasons. I'd say watch a few episodes and see how you like it.

No just please no. CW needs to finally die and be done. Supernatural was great but I barely made it to the end it all just got really cringey. The winchesters was a waste of time.

A non-CW show in the same vein as The Boys would do the brothers justice

This ain't the Supernatural universe , it's a Scooby Doo show.

Everything feels like a joke, the characters, the acting , the SFX.. The Demons has been reduced to pathetic versions of themselves, getting owned by water pistols and high kicks or by just saying 4 words to exorcise them.

I agree some actors in Supernatural were not the best but the thing is we only had to see them for a short amount of time before Dean and Sam hit the road, now all your main characters are bad.

Trying so hard to imitate Dean and Sam, John comes out trying too hard. Mary is acting nothing like Mary and then we have the British cringe accent lady and Shaggy with his van.

The fact that Jensen Ackles has his name on this after being on Supernatural for over 15 years is blowing my mind..

So much potential wasted.. what about following the canon, Mary meeting John but keeps her hunting business a secret, retires then we see John learn of the existence of monsters from Mary's death, going on the road, learning how to hunt and raise his two sons , seeing younger Dean and Sam hunts.. That right there is at least 2 seasons..

But no we got Scooby Doo without Scooby..
