I was already pretty high on Primal after the first season, but the beginning of the 2nd season just blew my mind that I had to share my feelings with all you people who never asked for it: I just saw the 4th episode called 'Red Mist'. Whoever was part of creating that episode deserves all of those big tv prizes, because that was one of the strongest 20+ minutes of animation I have ever seen.

For those who are unfamiliar with the show, this is an animated series created by Tartakovsky (Samurai Jack) and follows a neanderthal and a tyrannosaurus rex and their every day struggle in a fantasy pre-historic setting. There is no (understandable) spoken language in the series, everthing is told through the animation itself. So this is a show where you can't really look at your phone every 5 minutes, because you can't follow it by only listening.

I don't think you will want to look at your phone though, so don't worry.

Primal looks incredible. I already liked the art style, so that was always going to be a plus for me. However the animals and the scenery and the action scenes, well I can't put it in more fancier words than that it looks fucking great.

But back to the "Red Mist" episode. I don't want to give spoilers for anybody who still plans to see it, but damn. Damn, damn, damn, damn. There's violence, lots and lots of violence, but I thought it really gave another perception by seeing the protagonist feeling bad about what he was doing. He wasn't doing it because he wanted to, but at that point because of sheer necessity to survive. Realising this he simply succumbs, and the "red mist" takes over completely.

As if the violence wasn't given enough gravity already by what we had seen. We then get the ending. The father not being able to shoot the arrow towards the boat......fantastic. The main characters basically creating new versions of themselves, by doing exactly what was done to them in season 1... again, this is just a goddamn amazing episode. It flabbergasted me beyond flabbering,

Primal is one of my top shows of 2022 and also one of the best animated shows I’ve ever watched.

I didn't love the way it ended, though I understand what they were going for and enjoyed s2 quite a bit. Season 1 though...that hit emotional depths in 20 minute intervals I never would have thought possible.

Yeah I really liked season 1. Season 2 felt like they were stretching the season out too thin.

I think it would have been better to scrap the Darwin episode to give everything a little more time. Maybe develop Mira and Spear a little more before. Y'know.

I just finished the 2nd season. I kind of liked the ending, but I didn't love it.

Already knowing beforehand that there was a 3rd season coming, but only that, what happened in the end caught me a bit by surprise honestly. I guess we'll get a lot of new things in the third season.

Still really enjoyed the season. Never have I been as shocked when something happened to a certain egg like in this season. I honestly gasped out of shock as I expected somebody who was in the frame to get his hand up, but naah aaah.

It's a masterpiece. Really nothing else like it on TV.

Genndy Tartakovsky should collaborate with Guillermo Del Toro for the Call of Cthulhu movie the latter wants to do given that Robert E. Howard and H.P. Lovecraft were good friends.

Surprised more people don't know about this show. It's gotta be my favorite animated show for a long long time. What'd you think of the episode after this, "The Primal Theory"? That episode took me by surprise in a different way than Red Mist lol.

Primal was definitely one of the best animated show. I love the adventures of Spear and Fang. I also like the transition of monster of the week format of Season 1 to a more plot-oriented narrative in Season 2.

I started watching episode 1 but stopped as the baby dinosaurs hurt my heart too much to continue.
