It’s unwatchable now! It’s clever callback to the series creator is gone as ABC milks it into complete and utter incomprehensible nonsense.
In other news, “Bob ❤️ Abishola” was renewed for some reason. I’d rather watch “B Positive”!
What was the original premise?
It was inspired by (about) Adam F. Goldberg's actual family/school history and his interest in film making.
There would often be footage from his childhood shown at the end that was referred to in the previous episode or a short interview with the family member/ gym teacher/friend from Adam's life.
*Erica replaced Adam's irl brother Eric- before someone corrects my assessment... 😂
How about end it but Beverly ends up on “The Conners”, which has no upper limit on cast members and no ties to realism either.
They actually did boot DJ from the cast this year for whatever reason (he barely showed up as it was).
Did he want to be in the show? I thought he was retired from acting and he just showed up a bit as a favour to the rest of the cast.
He's been a "guest star" or "also starring" since the reboot, but he has still been afforded a contract with each season. He said that he wasn't asked to return this season and no explanation was given to him or to anyone else.
Haven't watched this season, but I knew there would be a drop off by writing off Jeff Garlin

There were complaints of him being verbally abusive on set, using offensive nicknames for female staff members, and being touchy and huggy that made people uncomfortable.
The network investigated the allegations and determined they were warranted enough to part ways with him.
Supposedly the situation was reported as "mutual" but they most likely canned him for inappropriate behavior after the complaints.
I still maintain that he successfully pulled a George Costanza and got himself fired because he didn't want to do the show anymore.
Some kind of "me too" type situation.
Because he was being a creep. He too agreed with the general consensus that the show was getting kinda shitty, and repetitive and boring, and his solution to being bored was to molest his coworkers. “As a joke.”
Uh, it was always fiction, based loosely on events from Adams childhood. And the show is MWANT to be ridiculous. Beverly is and always has been over the top. I’ll agree the show is past it’s prime, but it has t strayed far from its original premise.

The notice is likely a legal settlement with the actual Goldberg family to allow the show to continue using their names while avoiding slander due to the outrageous stories and characterizations!
It was always fiction though? I don’t understand what the “this is fiction” disclaimer has to do with anything. Yes, it sucks ever since Adam left, he was the heart of the show, without him there’s definitely writers googling “popular thing eighties” and jamming the result into a boring ass spec script they wrote for Boy Meets World or some shit. But even when Adam was weaving actual parts of his life into the plots the plots were still made up super exaggerated stories.

Interesting. I only started watching more recently, after meeting my current partner. What was the original premise that they've gone away from?
The most recent one I saw was about Beverly not being ready to date yet. Seemed appropriate to me. (My husband died young a few years ago)
I find it ridiculous that all of the kids still live in the house, especially the oldest one who then shares a bedroom!
But other than that, it's fine. Nothing great, but fine.
First 3 to 4 seasons were great, a real throwback to 80s with likeable characters and funny stories.
Everything now is completely over the top, and I have stopped watching except an occasional episode here and there to remind me that it's not the same show it used to be.
I just started season 8. It has gotten so ridiculous and over the top. The moment that the show jumped the shark was beverly sleeping in Erica's dorm.
The only episode worth watching is “Dinner With The Goldbergs”.

It sadly missed its chance to go out on a high note a few years ago, and it's sort of become a satire of the show it used to be.
We all knew the origin concept was too good to last, but it's tough to watch now.
I kind of want them to end it with Old Man Adam sitting in a nursing home in front of a TV that just plays nonstop '80s reruns and have it be he just made everything up to explain why it got more crackpot over time.
