Take the disc out of the case and your entire collection will probably fit in a shoe box. What I did for my music CDs.

I got rid of some of my DVDs, mainly things that I didn't care a whole lot about (especially certain "rental" DVDs that were bought super-cheap and I had never even bothered to unwrap). I also got rid of some TV shows that I had liked but it was obvious I was never going to rewatch.

But anything important to me got kept, regardless of streaming. Also anything with special features that I wanted to preserve.

Why not rip (digitize) them? At 5 GB per DVD ( most will be much less) you could put 200 DVDs on a 1 TB drive. They'll always be there when you want them and they won't take up much space. Also removes the hassle of sorting them, taking them out of their box and loading them in a tray etc.

I love my physical media collection. But it is curated to my personal taste. I say keep the things you like and donate or sell the things you don’t care about. That way you’re guaranteeing access to your favorite movies and TV shows basically forever. Worst case scenario, you never watch them, you haul them into the attic, and one day your kids or grandkids will think they’re cool and vintage.

I like physical copies of shows I know I will rewatch. I would keep it if I had the space.

But do you have the space? Do you prefer physical because you say you do and you mention concerns that don't apply to you if you just keep them.

Ultimately only you can answer that. But if you are worried enough to posting this you should probably just keep them imo. Unless you simply cannot store them in which case digital purchases beyond streaming also exist.

sell it all, just put them all up on fleabay and be done with them. it's better to do it now than later. the later you wait, the prices go down. you can still make a bunch of money getting rid of them now. Remember, ten years from now, meh it's all going to be online anyway

I'd absolutely keep the copies of my favourites! But I'd get rid of anything less important. And make sure you have a DVD player.

An alternative is to download them and put on an external hard drive. I have most of my faves saved that way. But DVDs are kind of nicer if you have a TV set up.

if you have no intention of watching most of the shit again, wave bye bye. But pay attention to all the shit being removed from streaming these days and ask yourself what are you going to be ok with, theoretically, never getting your hands on again.

I used to have an extensive DVD collection but sold them all when I had to move. That was 8 years ago, and rarely do I have regrets because if I really want to rewatch something, I can get it on iTunes or streaming.

My regrets usually have to do with wanting to watch a film with director's commentary or the making of featurettes. Fortunately my local library has a huge DVD collection, so I have been able to watch my faves by borrowing instead of buying.

I love not having to find additional storage for all the discs. My living room is much less cluttered now. And I save quite a bit of money by not buying DVDs every month like I used to.

The hassle of finding DVDs, the dvd player, changing discs, etc sounds dreadful vs streaming and clicking with a remote. I know that sounds lazy; and it is. but compared to point and click, its a massive headache.

I got rid of mine years ago and have ZERO regrets. I know no one with them anymore.

As a kid I loved collecting dvds but its sadly time for them to go imo.
