Seeing that HBO Max's adult animated series Velma receives mixed reviews from both critics and viewers and became controversial despite having huge premiere views. I thought I could give my take on making the show better and not be considered controversial.

The premise of Velma is okay as it is known for its dark adult humor with mysteries and it should keep the show's title of Velma , but on one condition that it should no longer be connected to the Scooby doo franchise, have the characters be renamed, and their wardrobe changed so that they will no longer be the counterpart of the scooby doo characters except that Velma will keep her first name but her last name should be changed that she will no longer be called Velma Dinkley but Velma "some other last name".

Have scooby doo references to be added but will have no connections to the franchise like having the scooby doo, where are you be the main character's favorite show and that Velma Dinkley , her namesake, will be her favorite character and have the show be its own thing instead of being a scooby doo show.

That way, the show will not receive too many controversies by scooby doo fans and will not have mixed reviews. I think the changes should happen in season 2 (if it's renewed or unlikely because of all the negativity ) or at least soon, since the show has become controversial.

The style seems more like what you received several years ago when you paid an SEO outfit to churn out blog entries for your company's website and they farmed it out to people who had access to spellcheck and methamphetamines but few other qualifications.

The wiki article is semi-protected and filled with outdated information. The show has been universally panned, with 7% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and 1.1/10 user score on Metacritic.

The show lost all credibility when it body shamed Fred for having a small dick.

That's not ok.

You can give Velma whatever last name you want and it will still be absolutely wrong to insult people for traits that they have no control over. For some reason, the same crowd that claims to be inclusive and empowering has no issue treating Fred like a fratboy would treat a fat girl with no boobs.

As an aside, what is this?

How is the show going to make any changes "soon" if it's already been written, animated, voiced, and released? HBO is in the process of selling off a ton of other shows, why would they sink money into retooling Velma which is a massive flop after only two episodes are out.

I don't mind snarky. I don't mind edgy. I don't mind reboots. I don't mind controversial.

I do mind unfunny.

Velma is unfunny.

I'd love this show more if it was funny and had any sort of a point. Comedy is subjective, but it seems like it's just making meta-references and that's about it.

Wait so people don’t think stuff like β€œI think it has something to do with drugs. Which I hate! …[pregnant pause]” is funny?

That might have been funny if shaggy said it.

But norville doesn't sound like shaggy, doesn't talk like shaggy, doesn't act like shaggy, doesn't look like shaggy.

He is a new character who happens to have the same name.

Agreed, they should have used the originals in every design not just Fred, who btw wasn't even properly done as Fred was always a fit guy, he wanted to live up to his dad's "name" not his "image"

I'm going with the theory that it was a Mindy Kaeling passion project that she had to dress up in the skin of an established franchise in order to get greenlit.

I think alot of people are just sick of classics being reimagined and remade into something lesser.

Studios and Hollywood just seem so woefully out of touch, I mean just look at Disney, they managed to ruin both Star Wars (which at one point I thought was impossible), Alladin and Willow all in one fell swoop instead of just going to the drawing boards and making something new and good.

This is where I think Netflix has been excelling lately, particularly with animated shows. The Dragon Prince, Castlevania, Blood of Zeus all feel very original and compelling.

Is "mixed reviews" the new name people use for complete and utter dog sh*t?

Asking for a friend.

Mixed reviews... So cute.

basically look at what harley quinn did and roll with that. No one has problem with bad characters, but no one likes dicks. The show established where it stood in the first 5 minutes and has never strayed from it. Which is why harley's show is loved by various people, even though it utterly insults some long time characters like batman and the joker.

But the insults come from a place of love and well placed jokes. I was genuinely looking forward to velma because I thought it was going to be exactly like harley quinn. Instead, all i got was 4 eyed asshole and her abusive friendships

If the studio wanted a Velma show, they should have given it to the Mike Tyson Mysteries people. That show is funny and stupid. Everyone would forgive a twist on the Scooby formula if the show was funny, rather than being meta and mean-spirited.

Scooby Doo could be a great adult show if they all went Darrow University. They could explore mysteries like unethical experiments going awry, extremism (mostly from the right), etc. Explore the awkwardness of self discovery.
