Hello everyone,

I've been using TvTime forever now, but it is slowly becoming very very obsolete (the fact that it doesn't offer neither a way to backup your watch history neither a way to mark episodes as seen automatically is really annoying...)

I really like the app, aesthetically is very pleasing, but i'm starting to consider other options...

I've seen multiple suggestions in this subreddit

- Trakt being the most suggested

- Simkl seems a good runner up

- Other options (i guess based on Trakt still) like Hobi and Watcht

I would like to get reviews from those who are using those and used TvTime in the past, why they switched and so on. Specially those using platforms like Hobi and Watcht, do i have to use both services (both trakt and Hobi/Watcht) or trakt works just as a database and the other is the front-end?

Thanks in advance, looking to hear your opinion

EDIT: would like that those who downvote the post would write why they do in the comments, since i don't really see a reason to downvote it cause there is no flame/blame against anything, but just opinion asking.

I still use TV Time. Mainly for its comment section. If you want discussion unfortunately I don't think think there's any tracking app better right now. But goddamn TV Time has been shitting their bed these past couple years.

I have a theory that a few years ago some big company bought them out, which is probably why after the 4.15 update we lost some cool features and the user interface changed completely. Such a fuckin' shame though, the app feels neglected.

Don't you feel the need of the features i mentioned tho?

JustWatch is pretty solid, It's main draw is that it let's you know where and what can you watch based on your country and streaming services.

This one i heard about. The fact that it says you where to watch stuff is really cool and useful, but the fact (afaik) that it doesn’t track automatically the watched stuff is really a bummer. Plus it seems that there isn’t an automated import from TvTime. Another problem is the fact that, if i have something downloaded on my Plex, it doesn’t suggest me to watch it there. If i said something wrong please let me know

but its tracking feature is kinda shit... I remember losing my watch list data, sometimes. And various titles are missing, even their contact support is not good + they do not follow GDPR rule and sell your data.

Use SIMKL its the best tracking service!

Since i never heard it before, what does it offer better compared to TvTime? It does at least mark as watched automatically?

I can't lie, I've never used TVTime, so I can't compare them directly - all I know is that in terms of logging shows I've watched I really like the UI and how easy it is on Serializd.

Not 100% sure what you mean by does it "mark as watched" automatically, but I logged a show the other day and it considers me having watched the entire show, yeah.

basically what other services offer (and TvTime doesn’t, but I’m looking forward to it) is this:

  1. I add a serie on XX platform
  2. I watch that serie on Netflix/PrimeVideo/Disney/etc
  3. The episodes i watch become “watched”,without me input it manually, in the XX app

Freezenification t1_j6ifhy2 wrote

Ahhh, I have no idea if Serializd offers that or not then, apologies!

Tdog504 t1_j6jb5gi wrote

Can’t you do that with tv time? If I watched a 20 episode series I can mark I watched them all or up to a point like episode 19 and it’ll mark all the previous episodes as watched

1

LukiLiuk OP t1_j6jbch0 wrote

Yes but you have to mark episodes manually! I don’t know if any service or app offers a service of automated marking, but that’s what I’m looking for

1

Tdog504 t1_j6jg0f5 wrote

How would that work? It would know that you watched the show automatically?

I know that for example Trakt has integration with Plex webhooks and has a chrome extension for everything else (ofc you gotta watch for example Netflix using that browser), but that app is missing other features that u value the most… so i’m like searching the best of all worlds

Showly is among the best when it comes to ui but it uses TMDB so a few shows are missing (mainly new ones currently in production), I use both at the same time.

Unfortunately it’s not for iOS, so i cannot even consider this option

Showly was my go to tv tracker on android but since switching to iOS I found FilmNoir to be the closest substitute.

I personally have been using SIMKL.com tracking service for a long time now, ( they have sooo many amazing features added based on audiences request). Really well designed and responsive.

- They provide tracking for Movies, TV Shows, Anime

I use TVDown.co - it's a website you can customize to add your shows, and it picks them up from TVMaze. There isn't an option to track what shows you've watched or haven't yet, but it suits the purpose I want it for: to show up which shows are coming up next, that too in my time zone's time.

I used to keep a spreadsheet with all the information like where to stream and what episode i was on (I still keep it up to date bc I like printing out physical copies but its not that detailed anymore). That said I tried some weird app and it sucked and then I found trakt and it has been a godsend. I love that it has lists that I can make to group my shows together and I can look at other people's lists and get ideas of shows I might like. I dont know alot about the other ones but I really enjoy trakt its really easy to use.

I've used Trackt since 2014 because I watch a lot of TV shows and it helps me to keep everything organised. Best site out there and the calender is also fantastic!!
