Lmao, you make it sound like the audience is split on this show. In reality, almost everyone enjoyed it, with a few Marvelheads expecting more action from it for some reason. Don't think anyone's calling it a mAsTErPieCE -- it's just a smart show with a good atmosphere.

Since it's so popular, the fans of this show would be fans of the other popular shows that came out last year. Better Call Saul, Barry, the Boys, Andor -- all of those shows would also appeal to those who liked Severance.

The show gripped me with the cinematography and aesthetics. And I really wanted to keep going. But the amount of times I was bored out of my mind was kinda nuts. Which is a shame because the concept and the technical aspects of the show are great, as well as the acting and the production design. I also want to know what this crazy finale is all about.

Severance is probably in my top 3 TV shows of all time, so I'm probably a good candidate for answering this, lol. It may even be tied with Season 1 of Westworld for being my all-time favorite piece of television.

My tastes tend toward prestige dramas that have something substantial to say about the human experience. Especially those with a speculative fiction element to them.

Some of the shows I'd list as favorites:

• Westworld. Well, really just Season 1, plus a couple of notable high points of Season 2. I'm of the opinion that it fell off a cliff in Season 3 and never really quite returned to form.

• Better Call Saul. I consider Severance to have some of the best, most interesting cinematography I've seen in a prestige drama. BCS is up there too, as far as that's concerned. Gorgeous shots that also carry meaning in their visual presentation. Slow burn, very character driven, but incredibly compelling.

• Carnivale. Cancelled before its time, Carnivale was part of the first wave of premium cable prestige dramas in the 2000s. It's excellent the whole way through, but it does end on a cliffhanger. (A sudden one, too. They could have ended it a few minutes earlier and had more of a conclusion, imo.)

• Twin Peaks. I'm also a huge David Lynch fan, so of course Twin Peaks is on my list. Even if something like Mulholland Drive isn't your cup of tea, Twin Peaks is worth watching, imo.

• Breaking Bad. Breaking Bad is one of the top shows of all time for a reason. While it definitely has a degree of widespread popular appeal, it's also got some depth to it.

• The Haunting of Hill House. I'm a huge horror fan, this one was pretty good. Flanagan's work in general tends to be very good.

• Dark. Never got all that far, but Dark is highly recommended and would probably be up your alley.

I'm assuming you've watched the classics: The Leftovers, Station 11, et. al.

Have you watched Maniac on Netflix? That;s the closest analogue I can think of if it's the quirky, likable characters stuck in a messed up world aspect of Severance you liked. If you liked the highconceptness/semi-thriller thing, you might want to try Counterpart (Starz?).

Oh...also Homecoming on Prime is a must watch... at least Season 1 is.

in almost 40 years of watching tv there are far too many to count. Those that are set in stone for all eternity are Star Trek DS9, Only fools and horses, Edge of Darkness, Yes Minister, The Day Today, Frasier, Better Call Saul, Hannibal 1-2, Bottom, Granada's Sherlock Holmes, The Office OG, 24, all of which i consider the pinnacle of tv in their respective genres

Lost, Scrubs, Breaking Bad, X Files, Stranger Things. For the record, Severance doesn't stay slow for long. I imagine most people who fall into the boring camp only saw the pilot.

I am going to throw in "The Consultant (1983) which was Breaking Bad 25 years before Breaking Bad. It might be kind of tame nowadays, but trust me, in 1983 it was "what did we just watch?"

The best Spy series is "The Sandbaggers."

For politics, the writing and acting in both Yes, Minister" and "The Thick of It" far outshine more recent popular series.

I just finished "Patriot" for the 3rd time and it was just as good as watching it the first time. I would put the pilot for it right up there with Breaking Bad. You'd swear that it was 2hrs, but it was just 60 minutes.. Kurtwood Smith as Leslie Claret would have gotten the best supporting Emmy if more than 9 people had wtched it when it was first on. And the cinematography was on par with a Kubrick movie.

American popular stuff I'm usually not into, but I did like Kevin can Go F**K Himself, Community, Rick and Morty and For All Mankind. And of course, I just.. fucking loved severance.

Usually: Taskmaster, Spaced, She's outta Her Mind, Fleabag, Am I being Unreasonable?, Ghosts (UK and US), Hyperdrive, BBC Marple and Poirot.... British tv, bonus points with murder or laughs

It's not what TV shows you like, but your experience. Severance is a satire before it's a mystery box, and to understand the satire, you must have lived it.
