Well first of all, that's not true. That works if the battery is flat but not if it's been dead a long time, the battery won't be able to hold any kind of charge. You might be able to bump start it a couple times but that is hardly going to be a reliable method of starting a a car repeatedly along a long journey and potentially on rough or uneven terrain where a bump start isn't possible.

car batteries have a variety of uses, not all car related. I'm concerned your brain didn't process that before u finished typing. A manual transmission is kind of a one trick pony.

No, you definitely cannot push start a car in 5 seconds everytime. You cant push start a car if you're on an uneven surface which you probably will be while travelling across country.
You also can't depend on it if you need a quick getaway. The characters wanting a battery before attempting a cross country trip in a world where roads and infrastructure are damaged at best makes perfect sense. Also the idea that a single adult could push start a car, fully loaded with supplies for a cross country trip, on their own reliably is just silly.

Yeah..I'm not arguing with you. If you don't see any issue with trying to push start a car in thick mud or an uneven surface when in a hurry that's fine. In the context of the show though the characters were in no rush and it makes sense that they would rather have a battery if possible, which they believed it was at the time.

As a fully grown man who has had to bump start a manual on a handful of occasions I would say it's not that simple when you're on your own and aren't on a slope.

Have you missed the fact the entire world is populated by zombies? Jesus fucking christ, would you want to push start a car in that scenario? Or are you just being stubborn for the hell of it now?
Joel even specifically said he was considering leaving without it and Tess talked him out of it
The OP is just being a prick for no reason. They've honed in on one detail, missed the major fact the world is covered in death and decided to question something that's really very obvious.
You're really not grasping what anyone is saying.
Nobody is saying you can't push start a car, Joel specifically considered going without a battery in the episode and Tess talked him out of it, because relying on push starting a car if you're either being shot at or chased by infected is a dumb risk.
A car ( unless it’s diesel) still requires power to run

Read my comment again. Stop. Think.
You’re welcome.

The skyscrapers were bombed. Did you miss that entire thread?

LOL. Yeah, apparently I did. Whoops. Thanks for clarifying.
They bombed the cities. The beginning of episode 2 leads to it, it's mentioned by Ellie and there are huge craters everywhere.

Yep. Someone else mentioned that. Somehow I completely missed that. Whoops.

A manual transmission car doesn't need a battery? What do you mean?
