Okay so I have an oddball neighbor, she's older and had some brain trauma in her younger years, her claim, not my assumption. I have a lot of trouble understanding her due to my own tinnitus and her smokers scratchy voice mixed with a little country twang and lack of teeth. So when she talks I only catch about a quarter of what she's saying and sometimes I realize days later what she meant. She typically flags me down every few days for a ride when I'm pulling in to our joined driveway. Sometimes she just hops in my car and says nothing.

I'm doing my kid drop off at school and upon my return she hops in my car wanting to go to the gas station. We get there, she takes a few minutes inside after she borrows a dollar from me. Comes out and said no one is working. I ask if she wants to go somewhere else, while we're pulling out of the lot, she said "no I got my fireball" shows me a small bottle of her liquor. She didn't give me my dollar back, hopefully she left it on the counter?

TL;DR my neighbor bums rides and money, brought her to the gas station where she says no one was working but she got what she needed and showed me her liquor bottle...not sure if she paid for it, I was the getaway driver.

If she didn’t pay for it, it would be considered 2nd degree burglary. A misdemeanor in most states. I did 5 days in the county and 8 days of community service 30 years ago for something similar.

Every interaction I have with her is just so random. I try to be nice because I know no one in this town and I feel a little sorry for her. She likes her smokes and likes the sauce, she's flashed me her underwear more than once and told me she won't tell if I spank my kids. It was just another surreal day with her.

She sounds like a lot of fun, and really bad news.

I knew a guy who unwittingly was a getaway driver (like you), except a gun was involved, and he did 2 years.

You don’t want to be involved with overly impulsive people like that.

Wait, what the fuck? Why was he found guilty if he had no idea?

He had no idea that the dude was going to rob the place. Dude got in and just told him to drive away. If I remember correctly they were only caught because of his license plate on camera.

We're kinda a one horse town. I might have to visit the gas station later.

Pretty sure you really arent in danger of anything legally. If anyone asks you about it, just tell them that some crazy chick bummed a ride of you and you took her to the gas station, aint your business what shes doing inside there. And I dont think this small theft is anything someone will say was coordinated from inside the car. So as long as you dont lie when asked, like saying you werent there, it shoulld be fine. Dont do favours for her again though.
