Maybe be a little more thoughtful about what you ask for, next time. Think about the worst consequences, and how you can avoid them.

I think going out on a date (30mins away) was definitely not unreasonable to ask, op shouldn’t have to hide himself. The one who should be thoughtful is the family friend.
