hmmm

alright

but if youre that privacy conscious why dont you use a linux distro, apple still collects your data they just use it internally instead of selling it. tails is perfect for the truly paranoid

Massively this, start off with getting used to using cli on something like fedora, then decide if you want to go the arch/gentoo side of things. Would avoid Ubuntu and similar.

I actually use linux and am familiar with the CLI, as I manage linux servers daily. Still have to do the switch on my personal laptop, but one day I might take it.

IMO, Linux is perfect for servers but not so much for desktop use, because of the classic problem of not many users using it > developers don't support it > many people won't use linux because their favourite software doesn't run > start over

What software are you hoping to run that you can’t? Is dualbooting not an option?

vegancookie t1_ja7e8ww wrote

Oh to be fair installing Linux on a Mac from Googling still isn’t where it should be :/ so that sucks.

not on macbooks :P (well actually yes, but there aren't drivers available)

I was talking more in general about software support, I guess most of the time I see people complaining about games not running properly, or modelling software such as Solidworks, Fusion etc etc

Most games I run run very well, proton is a really useful tool in that area!

If you're that concerned over companies having your anonymised data, stop using a bank account, because every single bank sells your anonymised purchasing habits to data brokers, including Google.

It's not much about the data on the disk tbf, as I have nothing "top-secret", it's just that I'm logged in everywhere with that device

Inless there are any glaring red flags on your computer, don't worry about it.

Bro, I did computer repair for 10 years, I have seen everything from grandma deep throating her mailman to apparently non-illegal horse stuff.

NOT ONCE was I looking for it. Some people's desktops are just fucking wild, holy shit.

The point of this, is that most/all techs are basically so busy with their quotas, that they dont have time to go snooping for really anything, unless that snooping is directly related to what they're doing. So, I wouldnt worry about it.

For the future: Anything you don't want people to see, store on an external hard drive or in cloud. The rest they don't care about any more than you would if you were in someone else's computer.

Only identity thieves care as much as you’re worried about, but you can’t really stop them anyways.

They go as far as walking up to homes and stealing people’s mail right out of their mailboxes.
