I'm feeling like an absolute idiot because I made a complete mess of the homemade dinner I cooked to impress my crush. I have had a crush on this guy for ages, and I thought that cooking for him would be the perfect way to show him how much I care. I spent days researching recipes and picking out the best ingredients.

When my crush arrived, I was so nervous that I couldn't even look him in the eye. I had cooked a dish that required a long time in the oven and I had carefully timed everything, but when I opened the oven, I realized I had burned it completely. I was so embarrassed, and I could tell my crush was trying not to laugh.

I tried to play it cool and made a joke about how I should stick to takeout, but deep down, I was mortified. My crush was a good sport about it, and we ended up ordering in, but I felt like I had let him down.

Lesson learned: I realized that cooking isn't my strong suit, but I'm grateful for a crush who can laugh at my mistakes. Next time, I'll stick to something I'm more confident in, but for now, I'll just have to accept that I'm not quite the chef I thought I was. TL;DR: Tried to impress crush with a homemade dinner, ended up burning it and ordering takeout.

Honestly sounds like the dude is a total catch if he was able to roll with it and not make you feel bad

If he likes you back he'll still remember this well. Some of my most memorable evenings with women have been where we tried to make dinner and completely fucked things up.

If you want to impress and/or is unsure about a recipe, do a test run without guests first

Did you get takeout of the same type of food you tried to cook? Or a different cuisine?

Pro Life Tip: Never make a recipe for the first time for other people.

Always cook it for yourself at least once (probably more to work out the kinks and seasonings, etc.) I often have to change recipes I find online while wondering if the person who wrote the recipe has zero taste buds. Some put more effort into the long-ass pointless story on how they got the recipe than the recipe itself.

Stuff happens to everyone with the opposite sex. In high school (long time ago) I ran into my crush in the high school office. He said something funny, I laughed--and blew the biggest snot bubble I've ever blown in my life. He just stood there smiling at me and I snorted it back in and the moment passed. Embarrassing as hell, but not fatal.

Might be a keeper. Did that to my boyfriend once. Totally messed up cooking for him. Still jokes about it years later, but now I am an excellent cook. And boyfriend is now husband of more than 20 years.

Girlfriend cooks amazing. Twice now we have completely messed up dinner and it was the best two nights we have had together. She is now my wife.

I dated a girl who told me she wasn’t very good at cooking. First time I stayed at her place she decided to make me eggs. She burnt them, and also ruined everything else she was cooking. It was so sweet that she tried to feed me, I didn’t care how the food turned out. We’ve been married for eight years she makes miracles happen in the kitchen all the time, and I’m more in love with her now than I’ve ever been. Don’t worry about burning the food, if he’s the right guy he won’t care.

To this day I remember what one of my exes made and brought me to work. Spaghetti and a sunny side up fried egg on top. Still melted my heart.

I've been cooking since I was 5. Made beef short ribs multiple times right? I was 20? Made them for a special dinner with friends. I, to this day, have NO idea what I did wrong. Imagine 4 people trying to cut into flubber-like hockey pucks. They bent, they squished, they slithered off the plates. They were impervious to stabbing ( and when dining with Marines , they tried). I took them away and ordered pizza.

Why would this be a… thing?

If a girl invited me and burned food, it would really not change anything. Like seriously. Yeah, kinda stupid, but again: WHO CARES?
