I stayed at an Airbnb with my family this past weekend. The stairs to upstairs and basement were somewhat narrow and covered with carpet. I literally sat on the couch looking at the stairs and told my mom those are the kind of stairs someone falls right down…with socks on.
Well there I was holding my 9 month niece heading down the stairs….in the most slippery/plush socks you can imagine. I get to the 3rd to last stair towards the bottom and it happened.
As I planted my foot down I could feel I lost any sort of grip. It was like stepping on a banana. My first thought was to hold on to the baby for dear life. Luckily she had already buried her face into my chest (something she does). But all I could think was to protect her so I had to just take the entire impact instead of trying to protect myself. My lower back hit a stair, then my head hit a stair and bounced right off of it like a basketball. I slid down the rest and landed right on my butt.
While my niece was shaken up, she was physically alright. Oh man the pain. I am alright but the next day my neck and lower back were so sore. In the end it made for a good laugh.
TL;DR: I told my mom that our Airbnb had the kind of stairs someone falls down with sock ms on. I ended up falling down the stairs with socks on holding my niece. She is ok.

I am glad you are both ok. You are not the only one who has done this, though I did love how you automatically thought of your niece.
