Don't know if this is a tifu but it's a really cute story. Thanks for sharing.

I guess I saw it as a tifu because my dad lied, made a bet with his kid, then got caught because he had dozens of packs of cigarettes hidden in kitchen cabinets

So you should have went further and said "that will be $100 per cig". Lol

You should have made the argument that each instance of smoking a cigarette was a breach of his agreement and that he owed you 2k per pack...

I’m the reason my dad quit smoking. The norm was to teach scare tactics about smoking in school (I was 6 or 7, early 90’s). They told me things about how smoking kills and I went home crying hysterically and wouldn’t sleep properly for weeks. My dad quit to get me to sleep in my own bed lmao

This is a cute story! Your dad was probably thinking “ dammit! She caught me!”

There were so many packs in there that once you opened the cabinets, they fell out. They didn’t randomly fall out.

I know it was his coping but don't feel guilty over pressuring him so hard. You love him and didn't want him to be unhealthy and die earlier than necessary. I hope in the end he actually quit

No they didn't, OP deleted it. It was her dad's fuck up anyway, not hers, so it didn't fit the sub rules.
