For the last 10 years i been wearing size 10 shoes thinking that was my shoe size but in fact i am a shoe size 8. I found out when my mum who is size 8 bought new shoes and it was in the living room and I decided to try it on after i read ‘arch fit soles’ on the inside of the shoes and when I tried the shoes it fit like a glove which confused me because i could’ve sworn i was size 10. I decided to go to sports direct a shoe shop in the uk, because they have a shoe measurement machine and it said am a size 8. The guy at the shop made fun of me for not knowing my shoe size because the machine is apparently for growing kids and teens. Also now am going to get arch soles shoe’s because my feet won’t hurt like hell when am on my at my job

Tldr: thought i was a size 10 but turns am an 8

Don't get your feet measured at Sports Direct. Many years ago I worked at a shoe store (Stead and Simpsons... Remember them?) and the training was always terrible. From what I understand SD aren't any better.

Go to an independent running store. One which will also look at your gait as well as the actual size of your feet. A decent one will also video you and show you how you move.

Shoe sizes are kind of like clothing sizes. They vary by manufacturer and brand. You could have an issue where your feet are exceptionally wide, requiring size 10 shoes in brands that run narrow. This is why you try shoes on rather than just running out of the store with a box in your hands.

Used to have this issue with shoes, always take it by centimeters or inches so you can get the right fit. :)

Part of my job is selling hiking and mountaineering shoes, you’d be surprised how much difference there is in size between brands. And then you have differences in width too! Wide, small, small back wide front.. Sizes really differ alot and there is no real uniformity.

I'm size 10.5 Yeezy, 10 and 9.5 Adidas, size 8.5 and 9 in Nike.

Could just be your shoes as I go between 10.5 and 8.5

Your feet can shrink over time and different brands/styles will fit differently. 10 years ago I used to wear a 5-5¹/² and now I'm a full size smaller and even shoes I had from 10yr ago are swimming on my feet and need insoles and thick socks to wear.
