Ohio isn't landlocked and was at one point a major ocean access point for the interior, so much so that there was a war fought over it that directly caused the American Revolution.

Ohio is landlocked by other states but it does have access to Lake Erie which connects to the Atlantic Ocean via the St. Lawrence River. However, Ohio was not a major ocean access point for the interior during the colonial era because it was mostly inhabited by Native Americans who resisted European settlement.
There was a war fought over Ohio that indirectly influenced the American Revolution. It was called the French and Indian War (1754-1763) and it involved Britain and France competing for control of North America, including Ohio. The war ended with Britain gaining most of France’s territory east of the Mississippi River but also imposing taxes on its colonies to pay for the war debt. This led to resentment and resistance among colonists who felt they had no representation in Parliament.
The Proclamation of 1763 was one of the acts that angered colonists because it prohibited them from settling west of the Appalachian Mountains, including Ohio. Some colonists defied this order and moved into Ohio anyway, causing conflicts with Native Americans who allied with Britain during the Revolutionary War (1775-1783).
So, Ohio was not a major ocean access point for the interior but it was a contested land between Britain, France and Native Americans that contributed to colonial grievances that sparked the American Revolution.

It is also on the Mississippi, which has been one of the major water routes in world history.

The entire north of Ohio is Lake Erie, so it's not a landlock state. And there is a salt mine under Cleveland.
iocanetolerance t1_j96wc8e wrote
So, is Illinois not landlocked because it's on Lake Michigan? Is Iowa not landlocked because the entire eastern border is on the Mississippi? Where does it end?
ThrowawayZZC t1_j97eps1 wrote
It doesn't.
If you have ocean access via a navigable river, you have ocean access via a navigable river.
If you do not, you do not.

At least it isn't one of the 15 flags that are blue with a state seal in the middle. Or one of the (possibly) 5 flags with Confederate symbology.

I play Statle which has you guess state flags. And I never realized how much I appreciate our flag. I find its symbolism and uniqueness something special about it. I am now so grateful i don’t have a podunk state flag — versus some of these Wish.com designed state flags that have the state’s names written on them in big letters. Lol. :P But jokes aside, some flags have like confederate flags in them. Ohio’s def beats quite a few flags imo.

Except one has the world’s tallest mountain and the other one has virtually zero mountains. Ohio having a mountain really depends on how inclusive you are of large hills.
Reniconix t1_j961b2g wrote
The USGS defined a mountain as any landform that rises 1000ft or more above the surrounding area. Ohio's most prominent (and highest) point is 1549ft above sea level (43rd highest overall) but is only 639ft above the surrounding area. It is also 1094ft above the lowest point (the Ohio River at the tri-boundary of Indiana and Kentucky).
