Now I don't have this anymore but I have vertigo during vestibular migraines

I was stuck in this sensation a few times when I was a kid! Once after a massive concussion and another when I had a terrible fever. Had a flash of it last night, actually, when I was using one of those tiny disposable Wisp toothbrushes. I absolutely abhor that feeling.

Yep.

Pink Floyd even has a couple lines about it in one of their songs.

Combo of a fever dream and too much cough suppressants causes you to have a distorted sense of body size and locations.

So your hands can feel a mile away and "just like two balloons".

My fever dream moment was bizarre because it included the time/space distortion but there were these "beings" present, trying to teach me how to use one of their weapons. It was just a ball you rolled in a very specific way, and I couldn't get it right, lol. When I zooped back into my body I was curled up in an armchair staring out the window at the flashing yellow street light down the road. I immediately screamed at the memory of the horrible sensation and started crying even though the actual "dream" was very calm, albeit intense. Acid got me close to that feeling and I'm positive salvia would be closer if not worse.

Yup. This is what I experienced in March-April 2020 when I had covid.

Holy. Fucking. Shit. I've sang that line about a million times and never put 2 and 2 together.

I’ve been experiencing this my whole life. I’m assuming mine is a milder version as it’s not as bad as many of these descriptions claim. It’s like you just can’t put the size of things in to any relative frame of reference. Everything seems really big and really small at the same time. I’ve never had any hallucinations associated with it. At least that I’ve noticed. But even though visually things look the same to me, the brain just can’t process how things relate to each other. It’s much worse when you get it at night when your eyes are closed. I always felt like watching TV helps.

PurpleCabbageMonkey t1_ja3b9ka wrote

Sounds like what I experienced growing up, a sinking sense where everything stretches around me.

No hallucinations though and I haven't really experienced it when I am older.

Same, I really miss it and sometimes just as I'm about to fall asleep I feel a hint of it. Also for some reason I recall the sensation of being really centered around the extremities of my body; like the tips of my fingers and my feet.

sounds exactly similar to what I felt as a child too !

RitualVirality t1_ja3ahla wrote

I used to experience this fairly often as a child. One time my mom was putting me to bed and it was pretty dark and when she went to kiss me goodnight I looked at her face and she looked like a demon. For a long time I was afraid to look at my mom when she kissed me goodnight.

Other times it was mostly things looking small but stretched out. Always very brief. Other times I'd just feel like my head was shrinking, very odd stuff.

Wtf so I have experienced this shit before, the small object one and I can actually induce it where I can make my brain spin but idk off that’s the same thing

DanielFyre t1_ja3pvmu wrote

I had the small object one when I was a kid. Every once in a while randomly my vision would look for lack of a better phrase zoomed out and small. I told my parents and they took me to the doctor and optometrist and they felt i was making things up for attention. I dont know for sure if my parents believed me after that but I just stopped telling them when it happened. It happened less and less as I aged. Now it happens maybe once every few years for a very short time. I have no idea what if anything causes it

ZapYouInstinct t1_ja3q9gj wrote

I’m starting to think that it is related my one vision where looking at corners is like daggers into my eyes and it mentally hurts to the point where I have to shut my eye really hard, there’s actually a whole group of people who have these but I’m thinking it’s apart of this too

As a child this was really frightening. Walls looked like they would crush me and at the same time being super far away. Started to panic and cry. Doctor couldn't find anything, maybe because of my inability to explain the symptoms properly. When i got older i found out that i could stop it in minutes by alternatingly focus on something close and the horizon. It's definitely something gone wrong with depth perception in those moments.

Youpunyhumans t1_ja6sbh0 wrote

I for sure have experienced this. Happens fairly often, usually when Im lying in bed, close to falling asleep, or just waking up. My limbs will feel distorted, bigger than normal, or super sensitive, like I can feel individual parts of them, or the blood running through my veins, or I just feel like a giant that could step over a mountain in a single step.

Sometimes its mild, other times its quite unnerving and intense, but it never lasts longer than 20 mins or so. Was never able to explain it as a kid, so I didnt try. Now I know what it is.

When I was a child we lived in an old farm house. My sisters and I would get this. Looking back on it, I’ve always speculated it was from lead poisoning. But I have no idea.

One of the sensations I remember was lying in bed looking at the clothes in the closet and they would become near and far, or thick and thin, or all at the same time. Or fuzzy and smooth. It was so disorienting.

The kids all got it but our parents must have thought we were cray when we tried to describe it. We would sound all whiney and sometimes be crying because it felt a little scary.
