This actually doesn't matter much in most situations. It only matters if you block out one eye.

Fun fact, pirate eye patches weren't to cover open eye sockets (though I'm sure that was a decent secondary use)

Eye patches were commonly used by sailors to keep one eye adjusted to dark vision above deck, so when they went below deck they woudn't have to wait for night vision.

you can also get the same effect by keeping one eye closed until you're back in the dark, eyepatches were more practical back then tho since they went on deck so often

Its not one eye, it's one hemisphere (i.e left or right field of vision) of both eyes and they're flipped.
