Is it the guy that was almost executed for desertion until the higher up realized the mistake just moments before being shot? And then died hit by a car just before WWII

Yeah, he brought back to his line a captain, and was mistook for a deserter/spy when coming back (to another unit). The captain woke up and explained everything
