I see these at the thrift stores all the time. There’s a lot of them still in circulation.

I actually learned of this because I bought Shrek glasses at a thrift store and posted them online and someone warned me - luckily mine were from a different year and not this recall

I miss when McDonald’s used to do cool stuff like this, now it’s just slapping a celebrities name in front of the same bland meals they’ve been pushing for a decade. Bring back the Big Mac snack wraps damn it

I find this baffling because it’s not like cadmium is cheap or easy to obtain. Paints/coating that use cadmium are highly specialized and pretty much exclusively used for military applications.

They used too but I don’t think they have for years now. My dad used to collect them and while he did wind down over the years as recently as 10ish or so years ago my mom was still getting them for him, but it’s been a loooong time since I’ve seen one of those promotions running to the point where forgot about them

I think I still have these... Never drank from them, though.

Not true. The aviation industry uses it extensively in civil aviation. Most nuts and bolts on an aircraft engine are cad plated.

I used to do cad plating as part of my apprenticeship. It's ugly AF. A bath of cyanide, balls of pure cadmium and high electricity and a rotating "bath" of parts. Hated every minute. The smell, the chemicals. Everything. BEGH !

Cadmium is very toxic. Welding on cad-plated materials (usually the plating looks somewhat yellow) is very bad news.
