I always thought that Sting was on a holiday trip in Montserrat, the place Dire Straits recorded the song. And becouse of this coincidence and their friendship, he co-starred Money for Nothing.

Yep. They wanted someone who sounded like sting to sing that part. And an engineer said, you know sting is staying next door

Hard to find the non censored version of Money For Nothing. It was crazy what they could get away with in the 80s.

I believe it was more the manager. Miles Copeland was and is legendary in the music industry for being a bully. Kind of like Allen Klein when he forced the Verve to hand over all the profits to Bittersweet Symphony.

For the Police, he was a fantastic manager, though.
