> Field and Terry's paths crossed again 30 years later when Field, acting in his capacity as a circuit judge of the 9th Federal Circuit Court, ruled against Terry in a convoluted divorce case (and had him sent to jail for contempt of court as well). Seeking revenge, Terry attempted to kill Field in 1889 near Stockton, California, but was instead shot dead by Field's bodyguard, U.S. Marshal David B. Neagle.

Damn.

You know, from a Darwinian perspective, maybe the duel should be a thing again

I thought about opening a dueling club/bar but not with real weapons but nerf swords and guns n shit. Just for a novelty

You’d need padding for anything like nerf swords, I suspect you could at least concuss someone with one. That said I want this to be a thing. Loser has to buy winner a drink?

Seems only fair. Set it up like pugil sticks in the Marine Corps..one size fits all football helmet, shoulder pads and a groin protector, and either byo or buy a mouth guard.

Anytime dude! I love find interesting interesting articles such as this, it's just so bizarre to me to think that a dude would try and murder two of his old friends over such ridiculous shit. An article as bizarre as Terry's deserves a post written about him!

There used to be duels on the Senate floor. I think bringing them back, especially during these times, could be rather fun! Of course, duels in the House would even be more entertaining...

Very true! I think bringing back duels period would be fun, I can't imagine being able to duel someone at work, it would be both fun and dangerous at the same time.

But it would be awesome!

In the current political climate I’ve got to imagine (if we didn’t have a civil war from all the dead members of congress) that it’d quickly be be like 99% sharpshooters and 1% Nancy Pelosi with two desert eagles.

If I recall correctly, Judge Terry was pro-slavery and a Confederate sympathizer as well. Just a lovable guy.

I’d say her behavior before suggests she had always been insane.
