There's a housing complex near me, actually it's right across the street, in Beijing. It's 20 something buildings and has around 10,000 people. And that's not even considered a big complex.

I know this from talking to the real estate agents in the area as I was interested in living there. It's actually a nice community with nice apartments, but found something better nearby.

Oh this isn't government housing. It's all "owned" by people and mostly rented out to others. In China you don't buy land for life, you lease it for 30 years or so from the government. Developers buy it and build upon that land, people buy the apartments, people rent those out.

This post is about public housing though that is subsidized and maintained by the government. Public housing may seem like a generic term but at least in the US it has a fairly specific meaning.
