For me, it feels like increasing the number of teams will just reduce the importance and impact of the tournament. Participating in the World Cup used to be a huge performance as only the world's top teams would qualify.

Honestly with the groups only consisting of 3 teams, so only two games per group will be played that will make this much less worse than I thought. Should get rid of the worst teams pretty quickly. Now a group of Spain, Saudi Arabia and Trinidad Tobago doesn't sound very interesting.. but then again there's been plenty of upsets this WC already.
