Using Apple's offical "U2 album uninstal tool " from their itunes.
Still makes me laugh that was a real peice of software people demanded.
OldMork t1_ixpw7vw wrote
U2 should have offer the album for free and not forced it into every iphone and ipod.
arcaresenal t1_ixq69mo wrote
U2 didn’t force anything. Apple paid U2 and Universal Music Group a multimillion lump sum for a five-week exclusivity window in which to distribute the album. Apple then used the deal to add the album to every iTunes account. Most of those users had no idea you could simply remove the album from their music libraries, although it would remain in their account under “Purchased”. In the end it was a brilliant marketing scheme that ended poorly. U2 over estimated their popularity and Apple over estimated their customers competency with their software.
TheThingy t1_ixqawyn wrote
That album still plays every time I connect my phone to my car, until I open Spotify.

I witnessed this start to happen, people not adults at the time do not understand. How fast it went from one family member having cell phones, to all of them. It was within two years, I started selling for Cingular/then Att when I was 19 at the time and from 2005 to 2007. I watched every single person get a cell phone, it was something we may not see again in our lifetimes. A huge social shift to handheld communications. I also saw a lot of concerts ofcourse at that time. You saw it go from lighters to phones in the same time.
Zkenny13 t1_ixp50qq wrote

You also say that Michael Schumacher builds and maintains his own F1 car? Don’t gloss over all hard work being done to support your favorite celebrities. It’s offensive to the enormous teams behind them to give the famous people onstage all of the credit.

In Korea, the record companies figured out how to make some extra money out of this: instead of lighters or phones, many K-Pop artists and groups have an “official lightstick” with a special design, to be bought by fans as a way to identify themselves as fans of the act. While some have simple features like flashing and changing color with a button press, others actually connect via Bluetooth to one’s smartphone, not only allowing the user to control their lightstick with an app, but in some situations, allowing the lighting technician to control the lightstick, letting them make light patterns in the audience during the concert. The sticks sell for around $30 in Korea, which with shipping and overhead translates more to $50-$70 in the US.

Well young'un back in my day when we went to concerts and we're connecting with some deep shit in a ballad tune, we'd all hold up our cigarette lighters in unison. We all had cigarette lighters on us because we also were all smoking cigarettes back then, and we liked it!
Nowadays you young'uns are too soft to smoke a pack a day, so you never carry lighters with you. Instead you hold up your phone screen and to get a similar albeit lamer effect.

I’ve also seen it done with a phone’s “flashlight” feature.
V6Ga t1_ixrcsd4 wrote
I always thought that holding up lighters thing was a movie thing.
People really did that? That's weird. But then again so is taking videos of things that are happening instead of actually watching what it happening.
