So it's the opposite of New Zealand, despite actually existing it's ignored by official maps 🤔🙄

wouldn’t something like Google Earth have confirmed that much earlier? what the hell did that location look like from a satellite if no one bothered to say “wait, there’s no island here.”

Didn’t the map makers used to add fake islands in order to check for forgeries?

Sounds like Australia did not get the memo.

“It was removed from French hydrographic charts in 1974.”

I actually got a random video for "top 5 censored Google maps locations", Sandy Island was one. I'm guessing OP watched the same video, because it also "proves that probably" it was a pumice Island and captain Cook and some random whaling ship a hundred years later were wrong

And I can't be bothered to look into any of the flimsy claims made, because I'm not a sailor and I just don't care.

Yeah Cook also stated that there was no inhabitants living in Australia!

Just glancing at this, “charts” registered in my brain as “sharts” and I was intrigued.

Both of these posts are untrue, the fauna thing is a myth but they wen't simply treated as if they didn't exist either. Of course in many parts of Australia they didn't have equal voting rights until more modern times (in half the states they've had a constitutional right to vote for over 170 years) but there was certainly always government policy at federal and state levels recognising them with ministers responsible for their welfare interests and Aboriginal issues.
