My favorite part of that whole debacle was how in the end, neither of them won. The winner was a teenager that nobody had ever heard of.

It was also a taped event - CBS did not show it live and opted to move it to primetime

Jesus, is that what Gen-Z thinks our television watching looked like in the mid-90s?

Also remembered for the moment where all TV news turned into tabloid journalism.

I thought that the Saints’ Super Bowl win beat the MASH finale to become #1 all time. Is this just a difference between total viewership and percentage of homes with a TV?

The highest-rated broadcast of all time is the final episode of MAS*H in 1983, with 60.2% of all households with television sets in the United States at that time watching the episode.

My only thoughts about this: I had a show to do that night. I asked my SO at the time to please tape it for me. When I got home, I discovered that he had taped over the only existing copy of my senior thesis production. Since it was a limited week run, there was no way to ever replicate the performances. He didn't last long after that.
