Nowadays, the word kanmuri is used for crowns so I'm not sure if the Camry was named specifically after the Emperor's hat since they have other cars related to the word "crown," like Corona, Corolla, and of course, Crown.

I love the idea of a Japanese person complaining about other people mispronouncing their language. Like, buddy, actual English textbooks in Japan use katakana to teach pronunciation. At least people in other countries try to get the right pronunciation.

There is indeed a very rare 1970s Nissan Skyline that is known as the "kenmari" by the Japanese car enthusiasts. Because the TV commercial for that car features a western couple named Ken and Mary.
