Cutting your own voice to vinyl in real time, no matter how short the recording, costs hundreds (thousands?) of dollars -- even using low-end equipment.
I think 75 cents was a bargain back then.

Actually, you can do it yourself with nothing more than a sewing needle soldered to a tin can. You have to shout into it pretty loud, though.
