I do a lot of weather, urban, cityscape, and infrastructure photography for fun. When I'm storm chasing, I'll often take a few dozen photos over the course of a few minutes if I see something interesting (the last time I saw a tornado I took well over 100 photos of just that one event and it lasted barely 5 minutes). Similarly when I'm shooting urban landscapes or cityscapes I'll take multiple shots of the same scene for quality control. Depending on the occasion, it's not unusual for me to wind up with between 500 and 1500 shots from a singular 4-7 day trip, or around 100 or so on a day trip. Granted, day trips happens (usually) no more frequently than once a month and the longer trips maybe two or three times per year, so my actual daily average is somewhere in the realm of 5 to 10 and I still feel like I shoot way more than a lot of casual photographers.

Yeah I have taken incredible amounts or pictures traveling but this article is talking about casual photography. Full time traveling for 6 months straight seeing stuff like the Pyramids, Great Wall of China, and Wildebeest Migration lead to 30,000 pictures. Not casual stuff. I don't need 85 pictures carving the pumpkin or catching a small bass.
