There’s a difference between culinary and botanical usage of several terms including fruit, vegetable, and berry that are often referenced. A lot of things we colloquially refer to as nuts are seeds in the botanical sense. Nut allergies adopted the colloquial/culinary usage of the word, and those with tree nut allergies need to be careful of seeds also.

I had no idea. Cashews make my skin burn so I avoid them. I've never used pink peppercorns in home cooking so I never made the connection but it could explain some of my dining experiences.

You may already know this but cashews (and mangoes as well) are related to poison ivy and that may be the cause of your irritation

Cashews are actually seeds, not nuts. So I guess people with tree nut allergies applies to seeds as well.
