File a police report. Then your insurance will fix it and they can't take your deductible.

HeadPen5724 t1_jaco4u9 wrote

This is the correct answer. The police will also likely get in contact with Mr(s) Shaguar and chat about the damage.

TreeEleben t1_jadsi4w wrote

The police likely won't even care.

Some nutbag threw a full energy drink can and scratched my car a few years ago because she was pissed I wasn't tailgating the car in front of me in a long line of traffic. The cops came, found the can that matched my scratch marks, told me I could be arrested for parking behind her and taking video of her, and then ghosted me when I said I wanted to press charges. Thanks, officer friendly!

whirlycroissant t1_jaei61m wrote

Not exactly the same thing but we had a driver damage a ramp attached to our house. I got pics of the license plate as they were driving away and of course pics of the damage, and yah the officer took our complaint and then ghosted. Later on I came across a post on FPF saying that police do not investigate damage on private property (not sure why our officer didn't just say this).

willynillyslide t1_jae7u3u wrote

Correct. It would be one thing if you witnessed the damage being done but the fact that you cant prove it makes it pretty tough for the police to care. Not that they would care much anyway.

tville1956 t1_jaea8km wrote

If the paint on the car matches the other one, I’d say that’s solid evidence to support the other car was there. I bet there’s matching damage on the other car too.

2

HeadPen5724 t1_jadyqmr wrote

I would hope the police would care about vandalism and destruction of property. It’s kinda their job. Either way doesn’t hurt to file a complaint.

Idk when I called after an accident in Williston when someone else was CLEARLY at fault they said they would not send anyone to investigate and just to call my insurance company.

13

HeadPen5724 t1_jae1ru6 wrote

It’s possible they won’t care, I’d point out that with an accident though no crime has been committed, whereas here, keying the side of the car is in fact a crime.

6

Fromage_Damage t1_jaf32ou wrote

If they won't send anyone, just take pictures and file a report at the station.

somewhere_in_VT OP t1_jacw0y2 wrote

Hope the OP of the FPF has done this. Fortunately I wasn’t the recipient of this aggressive behavior.

wrenchindaddy802 t1_jae6je1 wrote

Doesn't mean they can't raise your rates. I had someone dip from a small fender bender recently, either one of us could have been determined to be at fault, but they didn't stick around long enough to figure out. I considered filing a claim to get the rear quarter repainted, but a quick Google search yielded the result that the average "uninsured motorist" claim adds 10 percent to your annual bill. I think I'll just keep looking at the scuff.

4

jsudarskyvt t1_jae80vb wrote

OP has the license plate of the person that did the damages. That plus the police report will ensure the asshole that did the damages or their insurer pays. And yes, their rates will probably rise. Deservedly so.

−1

wrenchindaddy802 t1_jae894n wrote

Assuming you can prove it, otherwise it will be covered under uninsured motorist, which will raise your rates. Something to think about.

6

jsudarskyvt t1_jae8nm1 wrote

Maybe if your insurer is one of the biggies. Why I use a local company. When the same thing happened to me my rates did not rise.

Do the dishwasher help with side angle incidents? Also, been looking gor a quality setup. Any recommendations?

11

somewhere_in_VT OP t1_jad1kbd wrote

I have a NextBase 522GW and compatible rear cam. They cover a wide view but do not provide much in the way of side view. Overall happy with it, seems like the app has gotten better, no issues with recording in the cold of winter, easy to transfer data from card to computer. I do think there are probably better options on the market, higher res, better auto record features, etc. but yeah, overall a good camera.

Lold at dishwasher :)

“I wanted to warn people not to park next to a white jaguar with SHAGUAR plates”

Why? To reward them for their entitled bullshit?

If I see this vehicle I’m going to park an eighth of an inch away from him. Then I’ll call some friends to come by and do the same. Then sit back and wait for the show to start.

polarbearrape t1_jae1ijl wrote

Be careful. Someone else on this page found a picture of the car from a license plate spotter. The car has a Betsy Ross flag on the bumper. Could be an innocent flag sticker, but that flag is used now by "the three percenters" an alt right militia group. They use it with and without the roman numeral 3 in the ring of stars. Just beware the person could be armed, looking for confrontation and LARPs GI Joe every weekend.

17

ScrunchyButts t1_jae3shf wrote

Listen, I’m no tough guy. Keyboard or otherwise.

But my experience is that the more “Pew! Pew! 2A!” stickers I see, the more that individual needs to be fucked with.

Some douche kazoo who got internet radicalized and bought a sticker for his jaguar isn’t exactly a gang of Hell’s Angels.

polarbearrape t1_jae0fie wrote

Just be aware, the sticker on the bumper may just be a Betsy Ross flag, but now people tend to specifically use that flag as a 3% symbol. I can't tell if it has the Roman numeral 3 in the center. Or it may just be a fan of Betsy Ross (unlikely), but beware he's probably armed and looking for confrontation.

Ugh 3% and other such hate groups.. good call on the flag. Gotta watch out for each other.

Sorry that happened to you, not cool. Totally support the police report and it sounds like you got great IDing info - good on you for being aware! But I did have to laugh at the Jaguar X-Type (epic failure of a car) in VT with VT plates and the ego of personalizing that plate to read SHAGUAR. 😂 Shagging where? When it’s broke down on the side of the road, or stuck, and a repair costs more than a used x-type off a third row lot. Down vote my salty ass - but I’m right.

If I have no choice but to park by a poorly parked car I just low key take a pic of the plate. “Can’t park well” is enough of a causation/correlation for me to be a little nervous about their overall driving skills. That and the asshats of the world like this jag driver..

Here is the VIN and model year:

SHAGUAR 2005 JAGU XTY SAJWA54C15WE41301

You can take the VIN and there are multiple places to see where the vehicle is registered with the easiest being carfax.

From there, someone in that little town should know of an asshat driver with that vanity plate and Ford dressed up as a Jaguar. Ugh, what a shitty model year to buy.....

So the Shaguar is this guy's Winter beater car? If he rolled and slammed his door into this guy a 2nd time, scraping white paint onto the other car, he must have intentionally damaged his own car too. What's his Summer car? A Ferrari? What a douche.

somewhere_in_VT OP t1_jadmhc1 wrote

Pretty sure it’s their daily. It’s a 2005 so it’s probably pretty busted, esp if they do this kinda crap. They intentionally opened their door twice into this guys car as they left, after keying it. Only damage mentioned was to OPs car. (I’m not the FPF op, just saw it and posted it here)

That sucks. I hope someone returns the favor to him someday. I drive a pick-up. Yeah it's big. I fit in most parking places but it can get tight. As I was going into the store I saw this lady shaking her head as she squeezed into her car. I mean it wasn't terrible and I stayed within the lines like they taught in kindergarten. Come back out of the store and there's a nice deep scratch on my passenger door. Fucking asshole. Usually I try and park far away from everyone but not this time and paid the price.
