I live on an acre lot in the Champlain Valley and it's a pretty open lot (minus the leach field and a small retention pond). I'm starting to plan for what to plan in the Spring and hoping to keep it to plants, shrubs etc that grow well around here. Any links/advice anyone could give would be greatly appreciated!!

If you are interested in fruit trees, sour cherries do great in our climate. I have a small orchard. We pit and freeze them and use them year round for baking and they are awesome with pork tenderloin. Sour cherry juice is anti inflammatory as well.

Thanks for the tip! I need to find someone who can help with identifying trees. We've got a few trees on our property, one apple, one crab-apple (I think?), and what I think are cherry trees - they produced white or pink flowers in the Spring and these tiny (pea size) berries on them.
Do you have a cooperative extension nearby? Mine offers plants, shrubs and trees and local advice.

You could try the Uvm extension service to see if they have any advice or resources. if not, you could take pictures of the trees in their flower and fruiting stage and bring them to greenhouses with good fruit tree selections.
Very invasive though! We plant ours in big pots.
