I had a post about USPS woes last week. Thankfully, I got my DMV registrations finally. I contacted Peter Welch's office and they told me specific information about my route. It was useful.

Now, I have another issue. I was expecting a couple of important tax documents and an ID for Global Entry. They were supposed to be delivered by mail on 2/25 per USPS Informed Delivery. The problem is that I have not got them yet. I cannot file taxes without those documents and I need the Global Entry ID as I will travel soon. The letter with the ID is a federal mail and as such is marked with the 'penalty for private use $300' disclaimer.

As these were urgent items, I went to the local post office 4 times last week taking time off work. I was informed on each occasion that Informed Delivery is not trustworthy. I was told once that I cannot track mail if there is not a tracking number, and on another that there is no chance that those have been delivered to a wrong house.

At this stage, I think those mails are lost. I am contacting my neighbors to see if they had my mail, also contacting Peter Welch's office to see what I should do about the ID, and posting here an an FYI. We are all humans and make mistakes. Either those were delivered to a wrong house, misplaced, or there is a small chance of malice.

In Williston I have 4 USPS packages that have been marked "Out for delivery" since last Friday (over a week ago) but not delivered yet. I don't think they're truly lost, the PO just has a big backlog and not enough staff. The delays haven't been quite this bad in the past, but looking on Front Porch Forum or whatever it's clear it's not an isolated case.

My experience with Williston delivery is that it’s been taking about a week since getting the out for delivery notice. The other thing is I don’t think they’re delivering some larger items and you may need to pick it up from the post office r.

That's why I went to the post office- but they don't have the letters.

I agree! I live in Williston & have several packages that say out for delivery but haven’t made it yet. I think they are running on such short staff they just don’t have people to deliver.

Thanks, I have had other mail that was posted after 2/25 arrive- but not these three that was "supposed" to arrive on 2/25. I will wait for a few days. I appreciate it.

If it's from Ebay using Ebay shipping company its normal. I get multiple packages "Delivered" when it's still in Indiana. But here in St Albans USPS is garbage

What do you expect when a certain political party has successfully underfunded the USPS and privatize mail delivery for years. Plus, they appointed a postmaster general who is actively trying to dismantle it. Just remember, it's not the USPS employees fault, please don't take this mess out on them.

Funny how the current president and his party, with total control through January 2023, kept DeJoy on the payroll and didn’t seriously propose or do anything to fix the post office.

Hmmm….

Partisans will lick politicians asses no matter how much shit is on their face. Enjoy the brown eye Fossil.

I think it’s more likely that the Informed Delivery data is inaccurate than malice.

rchhe OP t1_jb0fmji wrote

I agree, more likely they are misplaced or delivered to a wrong address. As these are letters, not packages, I would have expected to receive them by now. As you know, there is a scan of the front of the letters on Informed Delivery- so I know that they are supposed to come.

Unique-Public-8594 t1_jb0n2ai wrote

I think they are still in transit to you, that the date is incorrect. I don’t think they have reached their destination yet, despite what the software says.

I would really like to believe, and I will wait for a few more days, but I have received letters that were sent after 2/25.

How DeJoy isn’t behind bars for treason and sabotage baffles me. Sure would be nice to have all those dozens of high tech sorting machines that we paid billions for… but yeah they’re much more useful as scrap…

I found that I can apply for a replacement- but that costs $25. I will see if there is a way to waive the fee.

That's a good point- but I have had no issues receiving any IDs (including Global Entry, driving licenses, passports) until this year. Let me call them and see what they say.

When I'm expecting important/valuable mail I put my mail on vacation hold until a few days after I expect the important mail.

Kind of sucks it's come to this, but it works.

You can pick up your mail before the hold ends if you know your item has arrived at the PO.

One can imagine a post office where there are only a couple of employees and they are in their 70s. This is the future of VT. We can't have services if we don't have houses for the people who provide those services.

Why waste time posting here? Go directly to your personal government valet Sen Peter Welch. Evidently his office has nothing better to do than search for your mail.

Why stop at Welch's office. Call Bernie and Becca's offices. I mean what else have they got to do than important constituent service like investigating your slow mail deliveries?

Why stop at the Vermont delegation. This is clearly a Federal emergency and deserves to be heard at the highest echelons of government. Call in Joe Biden in on this case!

This could just be a rant post... It's normal for people to rant about things many others have issue with such as USPS. Calling OP a narcissist isn't right especially since this post could help others in the future with the same issue and dont know what to do.

Yes I agree contacting our Senator seems overkill but if it helped OP who are we to judge? It got the job done, if it really was such a no no they wouldn't of replied or helped. That's what our leaders are supposed to do, help. Even if its something as small as mail. Plus since so many have issues with USPS maybe this will get them to pay attention and work to solve the issue.

Nutmegdog1959 t1_jb1mlde wrote

I'm conversant with 'rant posts' and generally they relate to a subject that will benefit all concerned. OP is only concerned w/ him or herself. The very definition of Narcissist.

If your DMV registrations don't arrive in what you believe is an acceptable time frame, you have a RECEIPT from DMV evidencing registration whether you re-register online or in person at DMV. That's sufficient in the event you are questioned by LE. In the future OP can do what the rest of do with DMV. Stick your thumb up your a** and wait!

YES, contacting your Senator is excessive. NO, that's NOT what they are there for, they have far more important things to do. And YES they are aware that the mail is not what it used to be. They don't need to be reminded ad infinitum.

Widow not receiving Social Security Survivors benefits, contact your Senator for constituent service. Veteran experiencing the multiplicity of issues facing veterans, contact your Senator. Mail not being delivered fast enough to suit you...go f*** yourself.

Insofar as Global Entry ID not arriving timely or Tax documents. The simple solution is APPLY EARLIER! That's a YOU problem, not an US problem.

If you wanted tracking for your mail, you reach into your wallet and pull out a couple George Washingtons. It's that SIMPLE and that CHEAP! Going to the local station of USPS FOUR times , taking time off from work, accomplished exactly NOTHING but wasted everyones time!

And to the OP, please accept my sincerest condolences for your inability to be whisked through customs treated like the special person you truly are. I can't imagine the indignation you will experience having to rub elbows with the great unwashed like myself that haven't the foresight to get their Global Entry ID.

I can't imagine the horror you must be experiencing. Right up there with the trauma of having to chose between a Tesla Plaid or a Lucid Air. Shall we holiday in Fiji or St Moritz? The pain of having to choose, making these hard choices is exhausting, almost debilitating.

And, by the way, while we're on the subject of USPS. How much did OP tip the mail carrier this past holiday season? Did you throw that slovenly slob a TEN SPOT that s/he will probably blow on smokes or lottery tickets?

How about the UPS and FedEx guys/gals that slog your cheap trinkets and dog food though the snow, sleet and freezing rain? The crap that you order online and are to goddam lazy to go to your local community retailer and re-invest in the community you live in. You would rather save $.50 and order online and have someone SERVE YOU.

How much did you tip those lousy bastards that serve you? That's what I thought.

There, THAT's a goddam rant!

You do have many valid points but no ones going to listen because of how you wrote it. Kill people with kindness, you attract more bees with honey, etc. If you come out attacking people they'll ignore it completely. Whether people agree or disagree because of how its written you'll be downvoted and no one will pay attention.

I did get Karen vibes but this is VT, theres lots of them here. Guess the saying a lack of planning on your end does not constitute an emergency on my end, fits well here and is the gist of what you meant. But still, thinking OP looks down on mail workers/delivery people based on this is a bit of a stretch. May be true but not a fair assessment. But this is an update to OPs original post which was a question, that is how reddit works, not narcissistic to post an update especially if people were interested in if OP solved it. Yet at the same time OP had an update in the old post and this seems more ranty so maybe your original narcissist point is valid. I'd be embarrassed personally to contact the Senator over lost mail personally but hey, not my circus not my monkey
