So I'm down here in NEPA 's Pocono Mountains where my local Scranton TV station has been besieging us with commercials for companies like FanDuel, etc ever since the state approved it. It's just relentless and kinda annoying.
This morning I watched the Meet the Press segment on states approving it and Vermont was alone on their map in the Northeast for not yet approving it.
I was just curious why Montpelier hasn't so far?

My state's overrun with crap like that plus huge electronic billboards, warehousing everywhere and traffic-filled trash-lined roads.
If I could afford to move there and fade out into the woods, I would somewhere in NEK but I doubt there's many jobs in Public Works departments up there.

I like playing the lottery sometimes but some states they went to the next level and it is everywhere trying to get as much money as possible.
If you played 1 drawing for each drawing game where I live every week , it would cost 73 bucks.
You know it’s like hey buddy over saturating the market a bit there …. I like some chance but it’s easy to fall to deep into that .
Maine and VT are two states without billboards in the continental US. I recommend checking upstate Maine out as well.

Northernmost New England would be my thing. I thrive in cold weather, plow snow for a town, love scrounging free wood for my stove and fatbike all winter. From what I can tell, that all kinds works up there.
I've lived in eastern PA for 50 years and am watching it get paved over and I need out eventually.
Vermont legalized Daily Fantasy Sports betting in 2017. Im happy with just having access to DFS. It requires more effort then just throwing money at parlays and prop bets.
You can also watch the State Vtrans job boards. My grandfather retired from the AOT plowing roads after many years and he got a lot of fulfillment from his service to the State. Hats off to you and all the other plow drivers out there - lot of late nights, early mornings, and important work.

I hope we never get it. I lived in Vegas for 15 years and watched people throw their lives away with gambling. Just sad.
It’s terrible they start it out small then it becomes this all encompassing thing with ads everywhere , online play , in every store and then kiosks for it.
They also tune it to be addicting and research how to get you to pay more .
It’s so alluring to think you could solve all your problems by hitting a million or more but the odds are so bad it’s unlikely even if you played everyday you would ever win anything g like that .
The human brain has trouble understanding the kind of numbers in those odds and how bad it really is.
It would make sense if VT had major sports teams, which we don't. However, we're close enough to Boston?

It is anti-Semitic to ban sports betting. And Vermont is anti-Semitic. Simple as.
Online sports betting is coming. It's working its way through the House.
This does not mean we will turn into Vegas, folks. You'll hardly notice it has happened, unless you do some betting.
Remnants of an era of fear and over control of personal responsibility (e.g. drugs and sex education). Abstinence rarely works for the masses. There isn't really much of a push to have it legalized from what I've seen.
The fear that if we legalize gambling, then anyone could fall into the trap. "I've seen what Vegas has done to people." Yes, if you only have one area that is widely open for gaming, you will attract gamblers that become addicted. In my opinion, that is not enough of a reason to entirely restrict the general public.
Legalization allows for regulations, regulations designed to protect the well being of the public. Currently, if you want to gamble on sports, you have to go through some sort of illegal channel, which is a riskier endeavor with less safety nets.
It will pass eventually, there will be resistance.
A scourge on society. The gambling is bad too.
