I have always been awestruck by the fall photos of VT that I see online. I recently moved to NJ (close to Edison), and want to do a solo trip to see the fall foliage over the coming weekend. I wanted to get some suggestions for a few potential places to visit. I am restricting my search space to southern VT as it is ~4 hrs away from me and would be the most convenient given that I plan to drive back on Sunday. Thanks!

Pretty much anywhere in range will do, the hardest thing will be finding a place to stay overnight...

Check the foliage forecaster to see what is still going to have color. Most places are peak this week so they may be past by next weekend.

If there is still color try hiking to the ascutney fire tower

Route 7 should be lit. If you make it as far north as 30 in Cornwall, you’ll get the Adirondacks to the west and the green mountain range on the right (driving north). Sweeping, incredible views in both directions. The best stretch is whiting and north to Middlebury.

Alternatively, drive up 7 to Midd and down 30 to connect with 22 then over to the through way in NY.

Might want to be a little further south. I think peak was probably this weekend in vermont so it should be gorgeous further south, like in western MA next weekend. Or very southern VT. Just a thought.

Anywhere in Southern VT will be beautiful. You should bring a tent unless you're down to sell one of your kidneys for a hotel room though.
