Hi all,
2 Aussies here travelling around US atm, we’re based in Waterbury for tomorrow and want to know what else to do, so far we have done: Ben and Jerry’s, smugglers notch (just drove thru as so many people there today), Burlington, hollow cider, Wayside diner.
We were freezing our butts off today (we live in tropical part of Aus), this state is so beautiful and we don’t want to miss something that we wish we got to while we were here.
If you’re like the Aussies I know, get a beer and meal at the black back pub. Friendly owner and amazing beer list. Enjoy, yah budgie smugglers.

Unsure if it's your style, but Little River State Park is nearby. Ask at the ranger station for the map for the "history hike", there's a town that was cut off by the creation of the reservoir and there's beautiful stands of maples to walk through and check out the stone fences, abandoned orchards and sugar bushes, grave sites, foundations, and even one lone standing building.
You could also head to Waitsfield and see the Rt 100 drive which is gorgeous.

Go for German food at the Von Trapp bierhall, the Sound of Music Von Trapps. Then up Stowe mountain or even just the townsite.
A day,
Toast and egg in Waitsfield, take mad river lift to top, Drive over app gap,to Mount philo, to Red onion sandwich, to cookie love, Charlotte beach(covered bridge), fiddlehead brewery, shelburn museum, red rocks, burton factory, oak ledge sunset. Dinner Burlington maybe trat.
Prohibition Pig or The Alchemist if you like beer.
Stowe Pinnacle is a great short hike with beautiful views

No hiking yet? It's not a true Vermont trip without some kind of walking/hiking trail.
What’s a good one? We also under packed with warm clothing so it’s been challenging as we’ve had to buy winter clothes here haha can’t imagine hiking up windy cold trails right now but we won’t be wusses and brave the cold for the amazing experience and views
Since you’re buying warmer clothes, I highly recommend getting some pairs of Darn Tough socks. They’re a VT staple and they are guaranteed to never wear out or they will replace them for free.
So we're on our final 2 days at smugglers notch, came across this, and bought 6 pair at Fleet Feet in Burlington. Thanks for the tip.
Some trails near Waterbury that I've heard good things about are Perry Hill and Stowe Pinnacle. There's also Camels Hump if you're up for something bigger, but it would definitely take more time, possibly be wet, and definitely chilly.
Just looked up Stowe pinnacle, close to us and we shall do that tomorrow with the clear day! Thanks for your input

when you're done go grab a pint and pretzel at the Von Trapp Brewery...quick 10 minute drive.
If you're feeling really brave, go down to Fosters after for a quick swim. Deep, clear pool in the river, always cold. In stowe, Across from the matterhorn on 108, Up Notchbrook road, .3 miles on the left behind the guardrail.
It may not be summer, but we still need to gatekeep our swimming holes!
I fully disagree. I've seen plenty of days where that place was both overrun with people (68) and completely empty on a sunny/warm day. It's not a secret by any stretch

Hunger Mountain - similar views to Stowe trails, smaller crowd
Mt. Philo has a very iconic VT view (lake champlain with the adirondacks in the background) and it’s a very short, easy hike.
Elmore mountain is a good 2-3 hour hike. The top had a fire tower you can climb to get a good view.
Hunger Mountain is closer to you, but might be a bit too much if you're under prepared
Take the time drive out to Lake Willoughby. It is one of the most beautiful spots in the state.
Shelburne Farms and Shelburne Museum are great spots to check out!
Have you done a hike? Go hike Mt. Hunger over to White Rocks. Gorgeous views and a neat hike. Well worth the adventure! Bring warm layers and plenty of snacks and water!
If you haven't grabbed a cider donut or some apple pie from a local orchard this time of year do that.

Go to Montpelier - cute town and a lot of the downtown stores are having sales today. Walk around, have lunch, short hike in the park right behind the State House if you're inclined. Go to Three Penny Taproom if you want beer, Barr Hill if you like cocktails.

Vann trap lodge is cool to see. That’s close by in that area. Sound of music Family. If you are familiar. Hope you did see the leaves in NH. Burlington is very cultural. College town and great good.
