Well took the plunge yesterday and checked out Flora in Middlebury.

Quite a nice and clean establishment! The staff were friendly, they made a lot of recommendations at the door after being carded. The store front is very private, frosted glass windows, segregated bud room from the ID check lobby thing. Friendly staff, knowledgeable af.

As far as inventory goes, there wasn't a lot. I think that's due to the market opening up. However, they had some pipes, bongs and other paraphernalia - great options for the tourist or local looking to add a piece to their collection. The spoon pipes were nothing to write home about, picked up one just to help support the local shop. Also picked up royal goo and wedding cake - very tasty and potent.

Which brings me to my next point: price and quality. I'd say that the quality of the product was decent for the price. Better stuff than what the illicit market could render in my recent experience, but a bit on the pricey side. How do I feel about the price and convenience? Pretty good. In my early years of cannabis use I used to get impatient with the usual dope man meme of "on my way" for hours and hours. Now I can get my stuff during regular day light hours without having to wait for some sketchy dude or deal with unscrupulous derpy distribution.

What did I get on my visit and my total spend? Well got one thing of CBD lotion, 3.5g of wedding cake, 3.5g of royal goo, and a small spoon pipe - for $202.65. I'd say the visit was pricey but a very fun and exciting experience for this 30-something life long smoker. My hope is in time, this business will continue to grow, and product offerings will expand. My only gripe is that the pipe selection is very muted, but it pleases me that this shop doesn't try to sell itself as a weed smoking meme but rather a respectable establishment staffed by genuine enthusiasts that are not pushy or over extending in conversation.

I remain optimistically joyed and excited to see where my next weed shop stop takes me.

Kind regards,

Some asshole.

EDIT / Update:

Wow, I cannot believe some of you in the comments section. Accusing me of being a being affiliated with an MSO, in the industry or working for Flora. I will just say this, I am NOT affiliated with any of the cannabis stores or operations. I am an IT guy and guitar builder.

Also yes - I know the market prices are stupid high - much like I was the other night... But seriously, this was just a review of my experience shopping there. I paid my own money and went there out of my own self interest.

Ya'll need to calm down and smoke somethin.

Meanwhile Maine and the entire west coast have shops with the highest of high quality and its cheap as shit (well to be fair top shelf is usually still expensive but you can get the lower grades for cheap as shit and its as good or better than black market/MA shops).

Some deals I've got out west are an entire ounce of shake for $80 in Denver (and it wasn't really shake it actually had little berry sized nugs) and a top shelf quarter on clearance for $35 in Bend, Oregon.

Meanwhile last time I was at an MA shop I bought 5 .5 gram joints and a slice for....$135. Ridiculous.

Having lived and visited places with long established legal dispensaries, I really don’t care if the price is double than the black market- I like knowing my stuff wasn’t sprayed with roundup and/or smuggled across a border and supporting some super sketch people. I like knowing what strain it is, getting to know what terpenes it has, how much THC/CBD it has. Less important, but also nice, is I support a tax paying business.

I also enjoy a light buzz and my tolerance is relatively low- so 3.5 grams can last me a whole month if I’m just enjoying a one hitter at night, so the cost isn’t that big of a deal to me. Also- edibles with real dosages are a game changer for me.

The edibles were $25 (pretax) for 10 5mg gummies. Personally I'm fine with paying that for accurate measurements of THC levels. I'm too old to play russian roulette with edibles.

I'm probably who this stuff is marketed at. I have the cash but not the contacts, so the legal route is the path of least resistance for me.

I just tried Mountain Girl Dispensary in Rutland yesterday a few days ago. I'm not super experienced with weed - I usually just get a disposable vape pen and/or gummies. I always listen to the staff but then can never remember well enough to know what I like lol.

So I might not be the best "reviewer", but I had a fine experience. Quick, simple. I bought a pre wrapped blunt for $14. I've smoked it the past 2 nights, still have a lot left and it's given me a good high.

They didn't have the disposable vape pens I usually like to get. There were edibles, but I wasn't really seeking them at that moment.

Honestly the convenience of having it right in town, and the process being easy, and staff being nice - that's enough for me to give a rave review lol.

In retrospect I probably did not need a new pipe or the salve that I bought there. Part of the problem is, I wanted to find something that was close to a product called muscle freeze that an ex given me years ago as I fucked up my back in September. I only bought the pipe because well the other one's clogged and I need to invest in some IPA to clean it properly.

After reviewing my receipt 14 fucking dollar sales tax on top of I think $25 of cannabis tax is kind of crazy.

But that's just how shit is in this marketplace right now.

Ooo. Thanks for that. Never heard of Muscle Freeze. All kinds of repetitive motion injuries going on. Gonna try that.

Visited Arizona and received free edibles for being vaccinated!!! I hope that Vermont has great places like MA. I started using in my early 40's and META in N. Hampton is so Knowledgeable!

Massachusetts, $15-25 weed all day long. If you want "good stuff", Sour diesel can be had for $35. Most 20-35%thc is about $45. 10%tax vs 14%. Resinate has about 30 varieties in stock, web order and pick up. VT can't compete unless you don't want to drive. Weed in Maine is even better. Why go black market and buy a drug dealer their ATV, toys, food, guns, pills? Oh yeah, can you get 98%dabs or just VT's Miller Light?

Its pricey because it’s convenient and your being taxed for it. That’s why it’s in the 100s and up of it we’re illegal you wouldn’t be taxed

not to mention there's overhead for running a business. the local weed man runs a little bit of a slimmer operation than a place with a storefront, staff, and point of sale equipment.

I think it was better when the government didn’t get involved although it was harder to find and cheaper but upside is it’s legal. Now buying an ounce is 500 and up when it’s usually 250-350 now for dro

If you ever go anywhere near Michigan, it’s worth a side trip. They are experiencing a glut. Prices and product selection and quality are excellent

Yeah in Maine they have THC levels in bud up to 28% (when I went this summer) and didn’t find anything close so far in Vermont

Thanks for posting this. I'm approaching 50 and I've never smoked anything (not even a cigarette) and I'm not about to start now. That being said, I have been really interested in the legal market so I can try edibles with accurate measurements and without the weed smoker/stoner vibe attached. I'll have to make a trip down to Middlebury when I get a spare few hours.

Give it time. When I stack coupons on deal days and use club points, I get an ounce of nice 22% thc bud for $75.

This seems very biased and possible agenda?? To throw shade at “illicit market” like your meeting some thug in an ally or no show is not my experience. I’d say your not mixing in the right circle. The quality is the same except prices legally are too steep for the average person to justify paying.

No, if you look at my post history, you will see I am your average asshole rural rhino.

no spin here. I've been a stoner since senior year of high school.

I am just documenting my experience with popping my legal market cherry.

Thethinginsideus t1_is2hkxy wrote

To paint the “illicit market” to be as bad as you’re saying is just false. Maybe I’m the 80s and 90s there was some sketchy stuff but you paint a picture of your typical refer madness. I grow and have procured from others and never have I felt the quality was garbage, overpriced or my safety or time was effected. This brings me to what’s your angle?

ok. so you are saying that me having to deal with lazy drug dealers from the time I was 17 till now is a lie to you? I've seen all sorts of shit, dudes doin pills with girls, coke, you name it. the early 2000's was a wild fucking time. I also got ripped off a few times too. fun times.

what the actual fuck. I have been a big proponent of the legal market, DIY home grow and all that jazz ever since I took my first puff back in 2004. I am optimistic about the legal markets because the create jobs and taxable revenue as well as new businesses. As someone that identifies as a conservative it might seem daft to you that I can appreciate cannabis considering the national platform is full of a bunch of cucks.

I am very pro cannabis, legal or home grow, the illicit market was fun, but ultimately, I'd like to see people growing real enterprises with this.

Give yer balls a tug.

Ok pal you clearly played your hand and are overselling the legal market. Just re read your comments back to people. How tf would you know the market stability and to encourage pipe sales at a dispensary instead of the glass shops locally is stupid. Guarantee your an investor or proprietor to be selling your bs opinion. I’m pro grow and DIY but hey go enjoy the legal overpriced market. You sound like a cheap salesman.

So you openly support a shitspo that doesn't care its employees die on the job, and they're one of the MSOs that are fucking up the market for the local folks? You're part of the problem. You must be a paid Flora employee trying to astroturf your shit companies rep.

Oh like the Ceres shop in Burlington? Aren't they owned by curaleaf or something? Sorry I don't really have a lot of experience with the legal market. I literally made my first visit and purchase yesterday. Well I've been smoking since I was 17, the legal thing is new and welcomed.

MortaLPortaL t1_is2ueud wrote

All of the dispensaries are owned by out of state companies unfortunately. So you’re better off learning to grow your own or get railed with no lube in the taxed to hell rec. market

I am not a newbie to growing, when it became legal to grow I went crazy with my elderly room mate learning the ropes and growing.

I'm all for the legal market becoming something and I'm in support of people growing their own. Time will tell what happens with all this.
